Volkswagen is leaving no stones unturned with its upcoming product for the Indian market. The German carmaker will be launching the Taigun for the mid-size SUV segment in India in the coming weeks. The SUV will be based on the brand’s MQB-AO-IN localised platform. The automaker will be introducing the car with almost 95% localisation for the market. Moreover, with the target segment that it is set to enter, Hyundai Creta will be its biggest rival. In today’s article, we will look at this Volkswagen Creta rival and the segment-first features it will come with.
Firstly, Taigun’s nose is quite similar to that of its larger sister, the Tiguan. However, the Taigun carries conventional looks, which surely is an eye-catching element for SUV enthusiasts. The car will feature a prominent front grille with chrome applique, a new Volkswagen logo at the centre of the grille, LED headlamps with LED DRLs and 17-inch alloy wheels. Continuous LED tail lamps will be one of its segment-first features.
Coming to the interiors, the Taigun is going to get a multi-layered dashboard with a large 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system on the centre console. The Taigun will also get Volkswagen’s new, high-quality flat-bottom steering wheel. The top-spec versions of this SUV might be equipped with powered front seats (driver and co-driver). Taigun’s fully configurable digital instrument cluster (Digital Cockpit) will be another segment-first feature offered by Volkswagen.
Volkswagen Creta rival features
The Taigun will be loaded with features for the comfort and convenience of passengers. Ambient lighting, Type-C & USB charging ports, auto-climate control, connected car technology, wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, ABS with EBD, six airbags, an electric sunroof and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) are expected to be the key features. Ventilated seats are likely to be a part of the package as well.
Engine and gearbox
The Taigun will mostly get two petrol engines, a 1.0-litre TSI petrol unit that currently serves the Kushaq. It is capable of producing 113bhp and 175Nm. This version will come with six-speed manual and six-speed torque converter automatic options. The second engine will be a 1.5-litre TSI petrol unit which will produce 148bhp & 250Nm of torque. This unit has a 10bhp advantage over Hyundai’s 1.4 turbo-petrol engine. The top-end variants of this SUV will come mated to a seven-speed DSG gearbox.
Price and launch expectations
The Volkswagen Taigun is expected to be somewhere between Rs 11 lakh to 18 lakh (ex-showroom). The car will be competitively placed against its rivals. Taigun will enter production on 18th August. We expect the car to be launched in the first half of September.
