The eagerly anticipated Skoda Kushaq was finally launched on 28th June. The car faces tough competition from products like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and others that fall in its price bracket. This is Skoda’s first attempt under its ‘India 2.0’ strategy for the country and comes based on the localised MQB-A0-IN platform. Kushaq starts at Rs 12.33 lakhs (on-road, Mumbai) and goes all the way up to Rs 20.66 lakhs (on-road, Mumbai) for the top-of-the-line variant. For this article, we will however be focusing on the Style variant of the Skoda Kushaq and look in brief if it is the best variant to consider.
The Style variant gets exterior elements like 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps with DRL, split LED tail lamps, Skoda signature grille with chrome surrounds, chrome garnish on windows & trunk, front scuff plates and a few others that give it a premium-yet-aggressive appeal. The cabin gets elements like a 2-spoke multi-function steering wheel, chrome inserts on the dashboard, AC vents, gear shift knob, handbrake handle & steering wheel, 2nd-row armrest & AC vents and a few others to maintain the premium feel on the inside.
The Style variant is available with options of 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engines. The 1.0-litre engine makes 115bhp & 178Nm of torque and comes mated to a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The 1.5-litre engine makes 150bhp & 250Nm of torque. This unit comes mated to a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG gearbox.
The Style variant being the top-of-the-line offering comes loaded with everything that the Kushaq has to offer. A 10.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, ventilated seats, an electronic sunroof, wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, connected car tech, wireless charging and ambient lighting are some of the key features. In terms of safety, the car gets 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, TPMS, reverse parking sensors & camera, traction control, Electronic Differential Lock System (EDS), ESC, Hill Hold Control, automatic front wipers and a few others.
Is it the best variant?
As mentioned above, the Style variant offers everything that the brand has planned for the Skoda Kushaq. At Rs 17.09 lakhs (on-road, Mumbai), you get the 1.0-litre petrol engine which comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. This combination gives the best of both worlds; fun-to-drive character and great fuel economy. Style variant with this specific engine & transmission combination is a complete package when it comes to the overall value-for-money factor.
