MG ZS EV has enjoyed quite a successful run in the country. MG entered the premium EV space early on, giving it an early mover advantage.  The only car that it competes with is the Hyundai Kona electric. However, both these cars cost above Rs 20 Lakh, making them a costly affair for many. This is where Tata comes in to picture. The Nexon EV is a budget-friendly option for people who are ready to shift to the technology of the future. This makes it a value-for-money proposition for many. Being a compact SUV adds to this. Also, Tata recently shared that it will have 10 new EVs in its portfolio by 2025. Other brands will soon be bringing out their respective electric products. This will surely make the competition fierce. Seeing this, MG is now set to bring a new electric vehicle that will cost under Rs 20 Lakh. This article will look at the MG Nexon EV rival and explore what it could come with.

Tata EV plans – What’s the roadmap?

What will the MG Nexon EV be like?

MG Nexon EV rival

With MG set to enter the sub-Rs 20 Lakh price bracket with its next EV, we mostly expect it to be a sub-four meter vehicle. The car will be a direct competition to the Nexon EV. As of today, the Nexon EV finds no competition in the country. Cars like Mahindra eXUV300 and Tata Altroz EV are expected to enter the market in the coming time. As mentioned above, this will surely make the competition fierce.

Upcoming electric luxury cars

What will power it?

We expect MG to use the same powertrain that it uses for the ZS EV. The car is thus expected to get a 44.5KWH hi-tech battery which might produce lesser power than the current figures – 141bhp & 353Nm of torque and could boost range of 419km even more (actual range figures may vary depending on actual use). Now, in terms of features, the brand is expected to cut down on some to keep the costs in check. Panoramic sunroof and MG’s Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) are thus expected to be skipped for this electric vehicle.

Launch & Pricing

Mr Rajeev Chaba, President & MD, MG Motor India is a recent statement made clear that the brand is not defining any timelines for the launch due to the COVID situation and shortages of essential materials, especially chips. However, the brand is expected to launch it by 2023. As far as the pricing is concerned, we expect the MG Nexon EV rival to be priced somewhere between Rs 16 Lakh to Rs 18 Lakh (ex-showroom).
