Skoda had already begun the production of its upcoming Octavia last month and was expected to launch it this month. However, the sudden rise in cases has forced the brand, including many others to delay the launch plans of their upcoming products. With Skoda Octavia now coming a bit later, people have extra time in their hands to decide before buying their next car. Design
The Tata Harrier being an SUV follows a tall design. Harrier is 4598mm long, 1894mm wide & 1706mm tall. This mid-size SUV has a wheelbase of 2741mm and sits 205mm above the ground. The upcoming Octavia on the other hand being a sedan will be longer than the Harrier. Also, the car will not sit as tall above the ground as the Harrier. With enhanced length, the Skoda Octavia will be able to provide much better legroom and knee room. This will be suited for people that prefer to be chauffeur-driven and like to get behind the wheel once in a while.
Engine & Transmission
The Tata Harrier comes powered by a powerful 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine that makes 168bhp and 350Nm of torque. This engine comes mated to manual as well as automatic torque converter unit. The new Skoda Octavia is expected to come powered by a 2.0-litre TSI engine which will be capable of producing 187bhp and 320Nm of torque. The petrol engine will come mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox. This DSG unit will be the first from Skoda to use shift-by-wire technology. The Skoda has however shunned diesel engines and will only be sticking with petrol engines.
Tata Harrier vs Skoda Octavia Features
A panoramic sunroof, a premium sound system from JBL, 14 ESP modes, an 8.8-inch floating touchscreen and connected car technology are some of the prominent features. The Skoda Octavia will however be taking the premium-feature game to another level. LED ambient lighting system, ventilated seats, updated Virtual Cockpit, HUD, two-spoke steering wheel, acoustic side windows, tri-zone climate control, connected car tech and wireless charging will be the main highlights.
Pricing
The Tata Harrier starts at Rs 17.18 Lakhs (on-road Mumbai) with the top variant coming at Rs 25.14 Lakhs (on-road Mumbai). The Skoda Octavia, on the other hand, is expected to start somewhere around Rs 20 Lakhs.
Should you wait for the Skoda Octavia?
Tata Harrier being an SUV will offer a bolder road presence, will have better off-road capabilities and will also give a better sense of confidence since the driver is seated higher in a commanding position. Also, a diesel unit on the Harrier will be a plus point for buyers looking to go for diesel engines, which the Octavia would lack. If you are one of those who is looking for the above-mentioned elements, you should definitely go with the Harrier. However, if you wish for a car that will offer much better interior quality, better cabin comfort, better features, much better fit and finish, German build quality and a powerful petrol engine, you should definitely wait for the Skoda Octavia.
