Ford in India has no product between its EcoSport and the Endeavour. The main competition is happening in this gap, the C-segment clan, these days. Products like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Hector and Tata Harrier compete here. The Hyundai Creta has been the champion of this segment for a long time. Although Ford, we believe, might be preparing a product which could dethrone the Creta. Down below we discuss Ford Rs 15 Lakh SUV which could disrupt Creta’s winning streak.
The Ford product is expected to be based on the Ssangyong Korando platform. The chassis might be a Monocoque setup, giving the vehicle better safety and fuel efficiency. We could also see the Korando platform underpinning the upcoming Mahindra XUV500.
The Ford vehicle will be feature-loaded to give competition to the other cars in its segment. Features like a 360-degree camera, panoramic sunroof and all such features which are available on the competition will be loaded on the product. With Ford bringing in a product this late, it has to be market-ready or else the competition is already ready to eat anything that comes in its way.
The engines powering the Ford Rs 15 Lakh SUV might be the ones powering the soon-to-be-revealed Mahindra XUV500; an m-Stallion petrol engine and an m-Hawk diesel engine. The power figures are also expected to remain similar. The vehicle might be a forward-wheel drive with all-wheel drive also given as an option.
The joint venture which was reportedly called off at the beginning of this year is still under negotiations, as reported to us by our sources at Ford. Mahindra might still do the manufacturing for Ford under a contractual agreement.
The Ford Rs 15 Lakh SUV could easily make waves in the C-segment if Ford manages to hit the sweet spot and impress the Indian customers. Moreover, we hope that Mahindra and Ford make way for a sustainable joint venture which would ultimately benefit the customers.
