When will Maruti re-launch Diesel engines?

The BS6 emission norm was a turning point in the Indian car industry. The stricter emission norms forced many car manufacturers to completely ditch their diesel engines, Maruti being the largest one. For the longest time, Maruti had been using the Fiat-sourced Diesel engine in majority of their cars and selling huge numbers.  Currently, Maruti only sells Petrol engines and thus cannot serve people who require Diesel cars. In 2021, the number of people opting for diesel cars is still large. Find out below when will Maruti re-launch its Diesel engines.

New Engine

In 2021, Maruti is expected to launch the 1.5-litre BS6 diesel engine in the Indian car market. The new BS6 diesel engine will produce 94bhp and 225Nm like its predecessor. It will be tuned accordingly for various cars. The previous diesel engine was mainly paired with a 6-speed manual transmission and the same is expected to be continued now as well. Diesel automatic option will also be a viable option for Maruti and pull in new customers under its roof.

Cars with new engine

All the previous cars which came with a diesel engine, will be benefitted by this. Maruti is expected to introduce the new BS6 Diesel engine in Vitara Brezza, Ciaz, Ertiga, XL6, and S-Cross. Smaller hatchback cars like Swift also had a Diesel engine earlier and may get it again down the road. Many of the above cars were Diesel only when launched. New Car

The joint venture of Maruti and Toyota is no secret. The partnership has already led to Glanza, Urban Cruiser. The same partnership is also rumoured to launch a new car codenamed D22 according to our sources.  It will be a crossover and will be developed at Toyota’s Bidadi plant. The D22 is expected to come with the 1.5-litre BS6 Diesel and 1.2-litre BS6 Petrol engine. Both manual and automatic transmission will be present with the car. Car customers should expect a price increase with the introduction of Diesel engines in popular Maruti cars.
