Citroen is expected to launch the eCC21, which will be a micro electric SUV.  Rumours indicate launch date around the end of 2022. If launched, the Citroen eCC21 will compete against Mahindra eKUV100 and Tata eHornbill. Prices of all these cars are expected to start around Rs.8 lakh.

Citroen is also expected to launch C5 Aircross and C21 sub-compact SUV in India first. The CK Birla Group’s Thuruvallur based plant in Tamil Nadu will be production hub for the ICE Citroen CC21 and electric eCC21 micro SUVs. Both the SUVs are expected to be based on the Common Modular Platform.  The interiors will come with all the modern amenities.

The most important specification of an electric vehicle in India is its range and price. In the international markets, the e-CMP platform cars come with a 50kWH lithium-ion battery pack with a 100kW electric motor. This powertrain produces a range of around 350kms. However price in India is also a major factor. The new micro electric SUV is expected to start around Rs.8 lakh to make it a more compelling offer. To keep it highly competitive, Citroen in India may launch the eCC21 with only a 30kWh battery pack. The electric motor might remain the same producing the same power and torque figures. The new electric SUV from Citroen will be made specifically for developing countries and come with a new design language.  The French carmaker aims to manufacture 3,000 units of electric cars annually and retail 1 lakh units by 2025.
