Maruti Suzuki Celerio
Maruti Suzuki is notorious for their unsafe cars and the Celerio is no different. While GNCAP tested the car in 2016 when airbags were not mandatory, the car scored 0-star rating in the safety tests. Readers should also note that airbags are post-crash safety equipment and will only increase 1-2 stars overall. The build quality of the car is poor and not at all ideal for safety and stability.
Mahindra Scorpio
While Mahindra now makes one of the safest cars in our country, SUVs like Scorpio and Bolero were not very safe. When GNCAP tested the Mahindra Scorpio in 2016 without any airbags, it scored 0-star rating in safety tests. While the present generation Mahindra Scorpio comes with better safety features, there is still room for improvement for the upcoming new generation SUV.
Renault Duster
Renault has not been doing very well in terms of customer satisfaction with its new products. While Renault cars are cheap, they sacrifice a lot of important elements, safety being a major one. When tested by GNCAP in 2017 without airbags, the Renault Duster managed to score 0-star rating in the crash tests. The new Renault Duster does come with better safety features but the build quality can still be improved on the SUV.
Maruti Alto800
Another highest selling new car in the Indian car market, is the Maruti Alto 800. Though the company has improved the safety standards of the car, the car is still far from safe and perfect. Maruti Eeco
This is the bread and butter car of Maruti for the Indian car market. Being the only affordable van in our country, Eeco sells more than 10,000 units every year. But when tested in 2016 without any airbags, the MPV scored 0-star in safety rating. While the standard safety features do increase post-crash safety, the thin build quality of the Maruti Eeco is one of the biggest disadvantage.
