Mahindra Scorpio has remained one of the most iconic cars sold by Mahindra in the Indian car market for quite some time now. People are a fan of its looks and functionality and the rural sector is a great consumer of this SUV. There is also no real competition to this SUV from other car manufacturers. Buying a Scorpio makes a statement itself like no other car in India as of now. Find below everything you need to know about the next generation Mahindra Scorpio.

More about Expectations

The Mahindra Scorpio next generation has already been spotted testing a couple of times in India as of now. The main feature of the next generation Mahindra Scorpio is that the new SUV is based on the next-generation Thar’s ladder-frame chassis. Mahindra Thar has already scored a 4-star rating in the Global NCAP tests so this chassis is pretty well built and sturdy.

The next generation Mahindra Scorpio will also get new body panels and come with a similar upright stance which is a trademark of this SUV since the early times. Pedestrian Safety norms will also be taken care of well by the new design of the Mahindra Scorpio.

The tail-end of the vehicle will be short and stubby, with a near-vertical tailgate. We expect the taillights to be LED units, and there will probably be ‘Scorpio’ lettering on the tailgate, which is quite a popular design detail among modern SUVs. The loading lip on the prototype models is quite low, which should make it easy to load luggage.

Interior Expectation

Like all the modern launches, the next generation Mahindra Scorpio will come with fairly simple interiors but with all the modern features. A fresh dashboard layout with touchscreen infotainment system is expected to make an appearance on the inside. The new Mahindra Scorpio is also expected to share a lot of interior components with the Mahindra Marazzo which will keep the prices of the new generation quite competitive.  The next generation Mahindra Scorpio’s interiors has been conceptualised and shaped at Mahindra’s North American Technical Centre in Detroit, United States, and engineered and developed at the Mahindra Research Valley in Chennai.

Power and Performance

engine

Like the Mahindra Thar, the new Mahindra Scorpio will be available with both BS6 compliant Petrol and Diesel engine. The 2.2L ‘mHAWK’ diesel engine in the Thar produces 130bhp of maximum power and a peak torque output of 300Nm. The 2.0L ‘mStallion’ petrol engine on the Thar produces a maximum power output of 150bhp and 300Nm of torque. Both the engines will be tuned differently and will produce a slightly enhanced performance in the new Scorpio.

Launch Date of the Mahindra Scorpio

It is well known that Mahindra has been readying an all-new Scorpio for India for a while now. However, what we know now is that the model isn’t expected any time soon. Dr Pawan Goenka, CEO & MD, Mahindra & Mahindra recently confirmed that the next-gen Scorpio (internally known as Z101) will see a launch sometime in the second quarter of 2021, which means the model will hit Mahindra showrooms sometime around April-June next year.
