Recent news revealed that Railways are planning to increase the transport of newly built automobiles all across the country. The Indian Automotive industry has been increasing their ties with Indian Railway and there is a lot of progress that can be seen in this method of transport. But why use it now? Bolero pick up

Kia Motors has shipped 5000 SUV on the 50th railway rake that left Penukonda junction in Andhra Pradesh on 13th November. Mahindra too is now panning to use the Indian railway network which extends beyond the boundaries on India.

Commercial vehicles like the Mahindra Bolero Pickup have a good demand outside the country too. 87 Mahindra Bolero pickup trucks have been loaded recently at Navi Mumbai on a train that’s headed towards Benapole in Bangladesh. This being a 2100km journey makes it a first time thing in the transport of vehicles of India.

Union Minister’s take

Piyush Goyal, in a tweet on October 25, said, “Boosting automobile exports: Railways loaded 87 Mahindra Bolero pick-up vans from Navi Mumbai in Maharashtra to Benapole in Bangladesh. Offering safe, swift and economical logistics solutions, Railways has emerged as a preferred mode for automobile transportation.”

 

Mahindra Bolero Pickup

The Mahindra Bolero Pickup is the flagship vehicle when it comes to pickup trucks in India. It has been around for almost 20 years now and has proved its tough usefulness. The Mahindra Bolero Pickup is available in customizable flatbed options. There is a four-wheel drive and CNG option too. Mahindra made a milestone achievement of reaching 15,00,000 units in August 2019.

The Mahindra pickup is being used a lot in agriculture transport, dairy products, consumer goods, and almost all kinds of logistics services. To top it all it is also being used for garbage picking under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan. This makes it a leader in the pickup segment in India with a market share of almost 58%.

Railway Willingness

Railway Minister has met with SIAM representatives as well as professionals from leading OEM manufacturers. Railways have also announced to make them more beneficial for the transport of the auto industry. Meeting the industry demand will include opening more loading terminals across Bangladesh and Nepal which are big markets connected by railways.

With this change, Railways is looking at a 20% share in automotive logistics by next financial year. Subsequent growth is expected to be 10% every year.
