BS6 norms in India took the market by storm with the added problems created due to lockdown. Recently Toyota Innova was spotted testing with CNG engine. Find all details below about Toyota Innova CNG spied testing.

Why CNG?

Toyota Innova CNG-1

The BS6 emission norms have made it compulsory for the manufacturers to reduce emissions drastically in all their petrol and diesel engine. BS6 engines are expensive to manufacture so major car manufacturers are ditching the Diesel engine option. Diesel engine already costs a premium price compared to petrol and further addition of BS6 parts will make the car price out of reach and competition. Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, which was only sold in Diesel variant before BS6, ditched its diesel engine and opted for BS6 petrol option.  Manufacturers still want to provide customers with a comparable mileage to diesel and CNG seems the next best option.

The CNG variant will be available with the 2.7-litre petrol engine.  Performance figures may be slightly lower compared to the petrol engine but the fuel efficiency will be the main focus of the company.  The car may cost somewhere between Rs.16 lakh to Rs16.5 lakh. CNG fuel is the best alternative to EV as of now so other manufacturers will be taking a close look at customer feedback. The CNG variant of Toyota Innova will be highly beneficial for fleet owners too.
