The demand for EV vehicles in India may not be increasing exponentially in the Indian Market still gradual growth can be seen in the sector.

As a result, Maruti Suzuki has embarked on a journey to produce one million green vehicles over the next two years as CNG, mild hybrid, and hybrid offerings. The company had already started its baby steps toward EV by testing out the Maruti Wagon R electric last year. Now we have again spotted the New Maruti WagonR EV 2under testing.

Maruti WagonR EV Exteriors

Maruti is not changing the tallboy look of the new Maruti WagonR EV for keeping the production cost low. Still, some obvious changes are present. Starting with the front, you can clearly see that the new car has split headlamps as opposed to a single cluster headlamp. This addition adds a modern touch to the car.

The upper portion consists of sharp DRL and LED turn indicators. The triangular-shaped housing is where the large headlamp has been fit in the new car. The grille is covered but being an EV, consider it to be closed and front grille design elements of EKUV100 may be seen in this section. 15-inch black alloy wheels were spotted on the test mule. Yet no confirmation has been given by the manufacturer. The rear end of the car will mostly remain unchanged unless Maruti wants to increase its production costs.

Interiors

The interiors are rumoured to be just like the third generation WagonR with a large touchscreen infotainment system on the centre console. All modern features like Android Auto and Apple car play will be provided in the car. A fully digital instrument cluster can be a new addition in this EV.

New Maruti WagonR EV Platform

Just like the 3rd gen WagonR this car too might be built on the HEARTECT platform. The overall dimensions of the car may remain unchanged to reduce production costs and make this EV affordable.

Dedicated driving modes and regenerative braking should be added to boost the performance as well as the efficiency of the car.

However, RC Bhargava, the current chairman of Maruti Suzuki was quoted as saying this car would be first made only for taxi drivers before other customers. The acceptance from the customers would make or break the electronic mobility sector in the Indian Market. He also said that factors like charging infrastructure, affordability, ownership, and battery technology would decide the fate of EVs.
