Hero Splendor Plus has always been a segment leader in terms of sales.

Many manufacturers tried to crack the 100-110 cc segment but no bike did not last for long. However, Honda Livo is considered as the tough contestant in the commuter segment. So let’s have a faceoff between Hero Splendor and Honda Livo and we’ll then find the better of them.

Power

The Hero Splendor Plus is quite an old motorcycle and still possess the same engine, however, due to the arrival of the BS6 norms it has been updated with some modern techs. The BS6 Hero Splendor comes with 97.2 cc single-cylinder, fuel-injected, air-cooled engine. The engine produces around 7.8 bhp max power and 8.05 Nm of max torque. The engine comes mated with a four-speed gearbox.

Honda Livo

Now, coming towards the Honda Livo, the bike comes equipped with 109.

19 cc single-cylinder, carbureted, air-cooled engine. It is a BS4 unit, BS6 is yet to come but we can expect the BS6 engine to produce a similar power output. For reference, the BS4 engine produces around 8.2 bhp max power and 8.6 Nm of peak torque. When comparing with the Hero Splendor it has significantly better which means we can say the Honda Livo is the winner in terms of power.

Design

Hero Splendor Plus

Design is quite subjective so declaring one winner would be not fair. However, we will highlight some of the key elements of the design on both bikes.

The Hero Splendor Plus comes with more of a traditional-looking square-shaped headlamp while the Livo gets modern-looking curvy headlamps. Both the motorcycles look simple yet good, however, Honda Livo offers better presence on the road due to its bigger dimensions and tank fairing.

Hardware

Both the bikes come equipped with a similar level of the cycle parts. Both the bikes sit on 18-inch alloy wheels. Telescopic suspension at the front and spring-loaded hydraulic suspension at the rear. The brakes are also similar at 130 mm drum brakes for both wheels. However, Honda Livo has also opted with the disc brake variant. So we can’t clearly have one winner in terms of hardware bits but due to disc brake option, Honda Livo seems to have the slightly upper hand.

Features

The BS6 Hero Splendor Plus comes with the analogue instrument cluster, combined braking system, Hero’s i3s idle start-stop system, luggage mounting points and conventional practical features. On the other hand, Honda Livo also comes with the analogue instrument cluster, combined braking system but misses out on luggage mounting points, idle start-stop system. However, it gets other conventional practical use features such as long seat than Hero Splendor. In terms of features its 60:40 for Splendor and Livo respectively.

Price

The pricing of the Hero Splendor Plus starts at Rs 59,580 and goes up to Rs 63,128 (both prices ex-showroom) for the top variant. On the other hand, Honda Livo BS4 is priced at Rs 60,010-62,414 (ex-showroom). The BS6 model is expected to have a price hike of about Rs 5-6,000.

Both the bikes do judge their respective pricing and offer good value for money. However, to have one winner we will be giving it to the Honda Livo due to disc brake option and more power. Other bikes that do rival against Hero Splendor include TVS Radeon, Bajaj Platina.
