With the BS6 deadline finally coming into place, the car manufacturers are scrambling to sell their BS4 products now. Many iconic engines have been axed due to the BS6 norms. One of which is the 1.3-litre diesel from Fiat that was used by many manufacturers throughout the country. Many cars now come in petrol-only variants.

But India is a market that has a lot of demand for diesel cars, and some manufacturers have kept the diesel going despite the added costs. One of the solutions is to downsize the engine to make it cheaper.

This is exactly what has happened in the Ford Endeavour.

Overview

2019 Ford Endeavour rear

The Ford Endeavour previously came with a 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel and a 3.2-litre five-cylinder diesel engine. The 3.2-litre engine became iconic and was a hit amongst the buyers of this category. This engine made the car fun to drive and it felt relentless in its acceleration. This engine also made the car stronger to its rival the Toyota Fortuner in terms of performance. Sadly, the engine was discontinued due to the BS6 norms as it would prove too costly to modify. But the demand for this engine is way too much and Ford cannot ignore plans to make this engine BS6 compliant indeed. But for now, there are no plans of Ford doing so. The 3.2-litre diesel produced 197 bhp and 470 nm of torque while the 2.8-litre diesel in the Fortuner produces 174 bhp and 450 nm.

Ford Endeavour 2.3 litre petrol

The Ford Everest which is the name of the Ford Endeavour in international markets has recently gotten the 2.3-litre petrol engine. This engine produces a whopping 271 bhp and 455 nm of torque. The Fortuner gets the option of a petrol engine as well. The Endeavour does not pose any kind of competition for the Fortuner in this area. This may seem like a good engine in hindsight for the Indian market. If this engine would have come it would be detuned and not produce as much power. Also, petrol is making a comeback in India, but in the full-size SUV segment, it is the diesel engine that is preferred. The higher torque of the diesel makes it more fun to drive. Therefore, there will be no petrol engines offered in the Endeavour according to us.

Ford Endeavour 2.0 litre diesel

The current engine which is a 2.0-litre diesel mill produces 168 bhp and 420 nm of torque. This engine is offered in international markets with a different state of a tune called the twin-turbo. This produces 207 bhp and 500 nm of torque. There are no plans of this engine coming here either.
