A key driver of Nissan India’s turnaround plans for India, is the new compact SUV. This SUV was teased at the beginning of this year and will be launched in few months from now. Company knows very well that this is the vital product and company is leaving no stones unturned to make it a success. Part of it is keeping the buzz alive by around the product till launch. As a next leak, comes the information that Nissan Magnite could be the name of this SUV.

Nissan Magnite

As per the trademark registration paper accessed by Indianautosblog.in, Nissan India has registered ‘Magnite’ as their next product. Looking at the current product pipeline, it will be nothing but the C-SUV code-named EM2 earlier.  We know that this C-SUV will be derivative of Renault’s Triber, which is a brilliantly packaged compact MPV. Now going by the past few examples and the image teased by company, we expect this SUV to look drastically different than Triber. The teased image clearly shows that Magnite will boast floating roof design with raised bonnet line. The front end could share its design with that of big brother Kicks. The sharp angular headlamps at each end of big Nissan grill may define the face of this C-SUV. Expect taillights to have LED elements to add a little premium touch to the overall design.

The Powertrain

Nissan and Renault are global partners and they have same root level strategy. So, it is quite clear that, with discontinuation of 1.

5 liter dCi engine, no products from group will come with diesel engine in near future. Expect turbo version of 1.0 liter Energy engine, to debut with this car in India. If we stretch our imagination further there are thin chances of Nissan plonking 1.3 liter TCe petrol engine under to hood too.

This engine is co-developed by Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi group with Daimler AG. Whichever is the engine of the choice, power figures will be in the range of 110-130 bhp to match the segment standards.

Product Launch and Positioning

Till now, as a part of Renault-Nissan’s platform sharing plans, Renault has always launched their version first. This could be true this time as well, as Renault is also in finishing stages of HBC C-SUV testing, while Nissan is yet to start. Renault HBC will command some premium over the Nissan Magnite’s price. With this, the group will have two products catering in the most popular segment of Indian car market. Prices of both products is likely to stay below Rs.

10 lakh mark. The major difference between Renault HBC and Nissan Magnite, apart from looks, will be feature distribution. With aggressive pricing as a USP, both these products will compete against Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet. Stay tuned for more updates!
