The Mahindra XUV500 is expected to get a major redesign this year getting a complete makeover in terms of styling, features, engines, line-ups and more. With the Auto expo about to start, Mahindra is expected to showcase the XUV 500 concept which is an electric vehicle.

Mahindra’s EV plans

Mahindra has been pretty clear about its EV intentions for the country and it plans to showcase this by displaying four EV models. They are the eXUV300, the eKUV100, and an electric quadricycle. However, the main focus will be on the Mahindra XUV500 concept electric as the next-gen XUV500 will also be similar to this car.

Design and features

Mahindra has recently released a teaser of the front side of the Mahindra XUV500 electric. It gets a completely new design from the ground up and will get raised front lights that will give it a modern appeal. It is expected to get an even higher ground clearance than the earlier car giving it a commanding look. On the inside as well the car is expected to come with a host of modern features such as a big infotainment system that will probably be touch-screen along with a premium sound system, a digital instrument cluster that will display all the essential information of the car. Automatic LED headlamps, LED taillights, flush door handles and 18-inch alloy wheels are also expected to be on the XUV500 electric.

Styling of the XUV500 concept

The electric SUV comes with an aggressive looking front with a sleek look across its fascia. The headlights are extending sideways to the back of the car and between them are a lot of chrome inserts on the newly designed grille.

You can see a lot of elements that relate to the number three; the number of lights in the headlights, number of lights in the fog lamp and the number of chrome insert on each side. It will be interesting to see as to how many elements of this car the non-electric SUV will have.

XUV500 concept engines and transmission

The non-electric XUV500 will come with a revised engine that will meet the new BS6 norms and also a reworked transmission. The car is expected to come with diesel as well as petrol models that will mated to a manual as well as an automatic gearbox for the higher variants.

The car will be based on a completely new platform that will also be used by Ford in its upcoming SUVs as part of the Ford-Mahindra Joint Venture. The car if launched in its electric avatar will rival the Hyundai Kona and the MG ZS EV. Check out our review of the current XUV 500:
