Which engine will make its way on the Maruti Ertiga Diesel BS6

Maruti Ertiga Diesel BS6 is a car which was in the news after Maruti had given out a statement to stop diesel vehicle production on their small cars. Now its seen while testing and this tells that the Ertiga will come back with a diesel power plant. The vehicle has good sales in diesel and discontinuing will be giving up on these future buyers. Let us know in the comments which other Maruti vehicle you expect to get a BS6 diesel engine.

The BS6 compliant Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has been spotted.

The current-gen vehicle comes with a 1.5-litre DDiS diesel engine that has a power of 95 bhp. The 225 Nm of torque on the vehicle will the talking point as this vehicle is a 7 seater vehicle.

The manufacturer had decided to discontinue diesel engine which needed a high cost to bear while making them BS6 compliant. The company might now choose this new path were the 1.3-litre DDiS engine will be discontinued and the new 1.6-litre engine will be introduced.

Maruti Ertiga Diesel BS6 1.6 Litre Engine

This new engine will be derived from Fiat. The engine is a 1.6-litre Multijet Engine which makes around 120 bhp of power. 320 Nm of torque will be seen on the BS4 tune of the engine. Now with stricter emissions norms, the BS6 version of the engine might produce slightly less power and torque but it will be more than the 1.3-litre engine which will be discontinued.

Maruti’s Dilemma

The company has already spent 1,000 crores to develop its 1.5-litre DDiS engine. The 1.6-litre Multijet engine even though it is a good one might not make it to the streets because the company will have to make it BS6 compliant too.

All this increases the development cost drastically and makes the vehicle very expensive when it is compared with the competition. A new powertrain on a vehicle means that the company will have to get a lot of components sourced which might be a costly affair and it is unlikely that the manufacturer like Maruti will take that risk. So the chances of seeing a 1.6-litre engine on the Maruti Ertiga BS6 will be very less.

There is a chance that Maruti might use this engine on the XL6 which is a much premium offering. The problem with shutting down diesel is that 7 seater vehicle are prefered to be bought in diesel. This makes them 50% responsible for sales. This is a healthy demand for a diesel variant. The company won’t shut off diesel engine on the Maruti Ertiga.

Now when the BS6 Diesel engine will be brought to the Maruti Ertiga, it will also make its way to the Maruti Ciaz and The Maruti S-Cross. So let us know what do you think which engine will Maruti finally bring as its BS6 compliant Diesel Engine. Also do take a look at the Maruti XL6 which is a Nexa offering based on the Maruti Ertiga
