The Royal Enfield Classic 350 BS6 has been spotted while testing and that has given us a fair bit of an idea of what to expect in the upcoming 2020 update. The Classic 350 is a rugged bike in its nature which is known for its roughness and tough feel. The BS6 norms are like something which will tame this wild horse and make it well mannered. The BS6 emission norms are something that might rob the Royal Enfield classic 350 of its charm and character because it all leads down to the drop in emission levels. The thump is something that gives character to the Royal Enfield Classic 350. With stricter emission norms there will be some loss of this character.

BS6 is like a nightmare for the company. Its vehicles are known for its loud exhaust note and grunt. The expectation of cleaner emissions comes at the cost of this. The bike that has been spotted while being tested has a catalytic converter. The other change on the vehicle will be that the chain of the vehicle will now be placed on the left side.

This has been done so as to accommodate the catalytic converter which eats up space behind the engine and the exhaust starts from it. The long one-piece exhaust of the vehicle won’t be available on the BS6 model.

The Royal Enfield Classic 350

The 2020 Royal Enfield Classic 350 BS6 test bike has seen with a gear lever that is similar to that on the interceptor. This means that there is a high chance of getting a 6-speed gearbox. The design of the seat will also be changed slightly as it might not require the springs to absorb vibrations. This might also lower the seat height and thereby making it a less challenging for shorter riders. The instrument cluster of the test vehicle also sees some change with a digital unit below the speedometer. This is a small panel and it might show the trip meter and fuel gauge. There is also a dummy panel where a small rev limiter light can be placed but that is something we will come to know when the actual bike comes to the market.

The switches on the handlebar will now see some change. They will have a different rotary design which is totally unique and looks good too. The ergonomic functionality of these switches will be tested when the actual bike comes in the market.

The major change will be the change in the chassis of the vehicle. Now the vehicle will get a double-cradle frame. We speculate that this has been done for 2 reasons. The first one is to distribute the weight evenly and the second reason is to reduce vibrations.

This change on the Royal Enfield Classic 350 BS6 will be something that will be debatable.

The price of this bike might increase because of all these extensive changes. The engine development will cost a lot and the company will have to cover it somehow by increasing the price. All in all the Royal Enfield Classic 350 BS6 will be changed drastically and it might become a modern and cleaner machine, but it will lose some of its soul.
