2020 Skoda Kamiq spied while being tested in India

Skoda has been playing a midsize SUV for India. This will be revealed at the Auto Expo 2020. But that vehicle will be in a concept form. The actual version will go on sale from 2021. This will be derived from the 2020 Skoda Kamiq. The vehicle has been spotted in India for the first time. The vehicle will be the smallest SUV by Skoda. The version that has been spotted seems like a European-spec model. This has been brought to India for testing.

2020 Skoda Kamiq Launch

This vehicle has been seen testing and so we expect the vehicle to arrive after the BS6 norms. It will include a BS6 engine from the start. There is no official news from the company about the launch. The car has been seen while testing on Indian roads. The vehicle might arrive by April 2020.

2020 Skoda Kamiq Price

It is too early to determine the price of the vehicle. But the segment that it is entering has a price bracket of Rs 8 lakhs to Rs 15 lakhs. We expect the price to be approximately around Rs 10 lakhs. This will be around the lower side of the segment. The Skoda Kamiq will be a great move for the company as even though the auto industry is a bit down in terms of sales. This segment of the vehicle is not affected at all. This is seen by the entry of Kia and MG who have launched vehicles in this segment even when the Auto Industry is not doing so well.

2020 Skoda Kamiq Engine

This vehicle is available in the international market with 5 engine options. This same might not translate to its India specific version. The 5 engine options include 1.0 litre petrol engine with manual as well as 7-speed automatic DSG transmission, 1.5 litre petrol with manual 6 speed and 7 speed DSG. The diesel engine also comes with a manual as well as automatic. The vehicle is also offered in CNG variant with the same 1.0 litre petrol engine. What we expect for India would be only the smaller engine option for the petrol variant.

Kamiq makes use of Skoda’s iconic grille. The front end of the vehicle looks like it has been directly lifted from the Skoda Rapid. From the rear it pickup the styling from the Kodiaq. The Skoda Kamiq is a Creta sized SUV. This is built on the MQBA0 platform. It will be measured 4.2 m in length and is expected to sport a longer wheelbase than its international version. Rear-seat comfort will be better because of this. The overall design will be close to that of the international Kamiq. The car will get some bits to the local Indian taste. There will be more use of chrome on the vehicle than the international model.

The Interiors of the vehicle will have a large infotainment screen. It will be a touch screen set up. This will be mounted as a separate piece on the centre console. The test models has and 8-inch touch screen uint. The India specific model will also have a panoramic sunroof. The rear seats will also have adjustability in terms of recline and slide. The car will be made in mind keeping that most of it will be chauffeur driven.

2020 Skoda Kamiq Interior

The interior of this vehicle is very similar to that of the Skoda Kodiaq. The vehicle has a 7-inch touchscreen display in the centre console. The AC vents are placed below it and the controls for the AC are below it. The vehicle might get a wireless charging deck in front of the gear lever. The instrument cluster of the vehicle will have an analogue unit. with 2 separate dials for the speedometer and the tachometer. It will get a small display at the centre of the instrument cluster. The steering wheel of the vehicle gets a flat bottom. The wiper stocks are on the right and the turn indicators on the left. The vehicle has the new Skoda badging on the steering wheel.

2020 Skoda Kamiq Platform

The Skoda SUV will be the first product to come from the Volkswagen Group’s India 2.0 programme, though Volkswagen will also have its own version of the midsize SUV. Relatively soon after, the MQB A0 IN platform will also spawn sedans for the two brands. The Skoda and Volkswagen SUVs will not have it easy in India, however – by the time they arrive, the midsize SUV segment that’s presently dominated by the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos will expand with the introduction of jointly-developed models from Toyota and Maruti Suzuki as well.

All of these colours might not make it to the Indian spec model but the common colours like the first 5 will be available on the vehicle.

2020 Skoda Kamiq Competition

The 2020 Skoda Kamiq will rival the Kia Seltod, MG Hector and the Hyundai Creta. Along with this, upcoming vehicles from manufacturers like Toyota and Maruti Suzuki will also go head-on with this vehicle.
