The current Toyota Corolla Altis is aging really fast and the car has to be refreshed. The car has had many variations over the years and has been one of the best selling cars in the world. The 2019 Toyota Corolla Altis has already been unveiled across the world and will be coming to India next month.

The car is the 12th generation for the Corolla since it’s launch. The car that will be sold in India will be the one that is sold in the Chinese markets. The Japanese and US market will get a different car. The car will also be available in the US market as a premium hatchback, something India has never received.

Some key highlights for this car will be-

  • The new 2019 Toyota Corolla Altis is based on the company’s TNGA architecture
  • It shares its 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine with the Corolla hatchback
  • The car will get more upscale and premium materials for its 12th generation

What will the features include? What engines and transmissions will be there? What about its competition? Read below our preview and predictions for this new upcoming car

The current Toyota Corolla Altis is available in 6 variants and 7 colors. We can see the price increasing by at least Rs 1 lakh with the new model coming in and be more expensive. We can also expect Toyota to carry n using the same variants terminology for the car in India. We also think for the time being Toyota might continue to use the 1.4-litre engine that is available for the diesel variant in India. The 2.0-litre petrol is going to be the new engine in this car. This will also be done because Maruti will be getting the Corolla Altis from Toyota in the 11th generation variant.

2019 Toyota Corolla Altis Platform

The new generation car will be built on the Toyota’s TNGA platform. This platform also underpins the new Toyota Prius. This new platform has made the center of gravity lower and will make the car more agile. The front and rear track of the car is also wider than the middle of the car. This means that the car will be great in corners.

2019 Toyota Corolla Altis Design

The new 2019 Toyota Corolla Altis gets a complete makeover in terms of design and looks a lot sportier than the outgoing model. The car now gets sleeker headlamps and tail lamps. At the front, the wider chrome grille flows into the full-LED headlamps. A single-piece grille and bumper give the front a very cool and striking look. The side of the car has a more conventional design starting from the front wing and flowing to the back. Overall the car looks very cool and the design is very clean.

2019 Toyota Corolla Altis Specifications

The 2.0-litre engine that’s available on the hatchback in international markets is going to do duty in the sedan as well. This petrol engine will put out -169 hp and 151 pound-feet of torque, making the Corolla feel better than its last outing. There is no word on the diesel engine which is a favorite in India. We suspect the 1.4-litre unit will continue to do duty on this car. The transmissions available on this car will be a six-speed manual and a 10 speed automatic.
