Tata Tigor JTP: Launched at Rs 7.49 lakhs (Ex-showroom, Delhi)

Tata is taking the performance version route with the Tigor and the Tiago. As shown at the Auto Expo 2018 along with the Tiago JTP, there will also be the Tata Tigor JTP. The JTP full form is – Jayem Tata Performance. Tata along with the Coimbatore based Jayem Automobiles is going to make performance versions of these two cars. The Tigor JTP has been launched today.

The car is going to use the bigger 1.2-litre turbocharged engine which will make more power. Interiors and exteriors see sportier changes too. This car is going to compete with established players in the hot hatchback segment. Volkswagen, Maruti and Fiat are the forerunners for this segment. Even the Ford Figo S is in this segment. Tata does know a thing or two about making performance hatchbacks. The Bolt and the Indica Vista both were great cars. Tata had also shown racing concepts for both. But none came to life.

The Tigor JTP will spice up the compact sedan market. It brings power and performance to an otherwise boring segment.

Tata Tigor JTP Price

The Tata Tigor JTP was going to be very aggressively priced. The price was expected to be around Rs 8 to Rs 8.5 lakhs. The car has been launched today for a price of Rs 7.49 lakhs (Ex-showroom, Delhi). It will be a serious bargain for the performance it offers. The car will compete with the petrol variants of the Ford Aspire and the Honda Amaze. Both these cars will cost you more than the Tigor JTP.

Tata Tigor JTP Exterior

The car retains its basic looks. Added to the regular Tigor are the smoked headlamps, bigger alloys, a hood vent, a new black grille. There is cool JTP badging all around the car. The car comes with a tweaked suspension and has a more menacing angle and stance. The ground clearance is lowered by 4mm. A spoiler and some other accessories could be coming in as add-ons. The exhaust is a brand new unit by JTP and is a dual barrel unit.

Tata Tigor JTP Interior

The interior of the Tata Tigor JTP will see some minor but visually great changes. We did not expect Tata to put in a new touch screen, but they have. The car has a black interior with red accents. The car gets 2 airbags in the front. Most of the features and storage spaces remain the same. One also gets an 8 speakers, a Harmon Kardon system, new door panels and aluminum pedals.

Tata Tigor JTP Engine

The Tata Tigor JTP is going to use a 1.2-litre three cylinder petrol engine. The engine is going to make 114bhp and 150Nm of torque. This should make a light cars performance a really great affair. This will also get a six-speed gearbox which will have modified gear ratios to match the cars performance. This level of kit in a compact sedan will be a great offering from Tata. The car is also gets some lighter materials used for weight saving.

Performance variants rarely do well in the Indian market. But it’s great to see how a big manufacturer like Tata is endeavoring and taking a great risk in populating this segment. The Tata Tigor JTP will be a departure from the mundane boring compact sedans and a breath of fresh air.

Even with different body styling and attracting the mind of a more practical buyer, the Tigor JTP will look at gaining the buyer base of the Maruti Dzire, Ford Aspire and the Honda Amaze. For the price the car is feature loaelo and appeals to the inner driver in you.
