New Toyota hybrid after the City hybrid?
Rising fuel prices have disturbed the common man’s budget. People are now looking at alternative options like CNG, EVs and hybrids more than ever. Recently, Honda launched the City Hybrid in India. We now expect other manufacturers to follow Honda’s lead. Globally, Toyota is the pioneer of hybrid technology so it makes sense for Toyota to bring a hybrid car to India. Innova Hybrid
We don’t need to remind you that Toyota and Maruti are collaborating on several new products and technology. One such technology is the hybrid tech that has been the speciality of Toyota. Both brands have already started developing a 1.5-litre and a 2.0-litre engine for initial testing and optimization. These engines are expected to find their place in the mid-size SUV as well as the new-generation Innova.
Why does a hybrid make sense?
Hybrid is in a way the perfect stepping stone before going completely electric. Also, the hybrid is a good option considering the upcoming emission norms. In cars like the Innova, it can deliver good mileage to attract more customers. Reliability is something where the Toyota Innova does not break a sweat.
Toyota Hybrid specifications
The Innova comes with petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol engine is a 2.7-litre unit capable of producing 163bhp & 245Nm of torque. Do you think a hybrid motor can be employed on this 2.7-litre engine? It would make sense but will be expensive. The diesel engine is a 2.4-litre unit capable of producing 148bhp & 343Nm of torque. Both engines come with manual and automatic gearbox options. What engines will the new Innova deploy is still unclear.

The most important question here is, when is Toyota bringing the Innova Hybrid? Though this is completely speculative, but we expect the new-generation MPV to come sometime next year . It will be a step in the right direction, considering the popularity of Innova.
