Toyota Innova CNG coming soon?
Toyota Innova has been ruling the MPV segment in India for many years now. It is a capable product that has evolved over the years from a decent seven-seater MPV to a premium MPV. But now it is facing competition from newer MPVs and seven-seater SUVs. To counter this, Toyota may bring a CNG option for the Innova. In today’s article, we will take a look at the Toyota Innova CNG and whether it could be a possibility in the future.
Why CNG?
The rising fuel prices are forcing people to consider alternative fuel options. EVs are definitely the future and Toyota did showcase the Innova EV, however, it was just a concept. It is not expected to be rolled out as a production car anytime soon. So, as of now, CNG is the best alternative currently. It will not only reduce the running cost but will also help reduce pollution.
Toyota Innova CNG – Lower cost base variant
We can expect Toyota to launch a new CNG-specific variant along with other lower & mid-level variants. This new base variant can have basic features. The main target of this variant could be to aim the fleet car segment. As this variant will be quite basic, Toyota can price it competitively to attract fleet drivers.
Staying with the competition
Innova is a product that has been around for a while and its reliability has made it a go-to MPV. But now, the competition has heated up with launches like the Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus, Kia Carens, updated Maruti Ertiga & XL6. Maruti is even offering CNG on the Ertiga. So, Toyota should diversify the Innova lineup by giving it the CNG option to take on the ever-growing competition.

As of now, there is no confirmation from Toyota, so commenting without any solid backing would be unjustified. However, looking at the constantly evolving competition, we expect Toyota to be working on some fuel-efficient alternative for the existing Innova. The Innova has been a very reputed player in the MPV segment and Toyota would definitely work to safeguard its position in the market.
