Yamaha Fascino Review

After the success of the much loved Ray-Z. Yamaha decided to launch a bit bigger scooter called the Fascino.

Unlike the sharp sportier looks of the Ray-Z, the Yamaha Fascino is much more curvy and portrays much more elegance. It was launched back on 8th may 2015 and I still remember the video of the modeling photo shoot. There has not been any changes ever since. Now in 2017 Yamaha is set to launch the 2017 model with euro4 emission norms. So let’s have a look at the 2017 Fascino and see what the fuss is all about.

Yamaha Fascino Looks

In the 2017 model Yamaha has tried to move a bit to the sportier side. The excess of chrome on the grill of the front facia is now matte back. This blends well with the all  matte black alloys for both front and back with a matte black exhaust. The chrome has not gone away though as there is a strip above the grill. And now a matter grey panel on top of the chrome. The indicators are on the side and are now clear which cover almost 80% the side height. The telescopic front forks is a nice move and Yamaha is providing your money’s worth. The inner side of the front panel has a bottle holder and a 12V charging port which adds a nice touch. Yamaha has given enough space on the foot board. 

This is kind of rare of scooters of this proportion. Even the seat is long and has a lot of cushioning. Yamaha claims a best in class 21L storage space below the seat. The grab rail too is long and looks like a well designed spoiler and has good space for your hands. There is also a hook to mounts bags below the seat. The instrument cluster is still analogue. If you were wondering where is the chrome gone than do not be disappointed. The Fascino name is still chrome along with the chrome mirrors. The bling stays. I am still trying to figure with so many advances why are the headlamps still not clear ones. There is reflectors on the glass but the nice touch is that it has a touch of black shade.

Yamaha Fascino Instrument Cluster

The instrument cluster on the Fascino is very retro in styling and Yamaha has made it clear that it will be competing with the other retro-styled scooters in this segment. The design is simple and easy to read with white background and red needles. The narrow body and upright seating makes the Fascino a very comfortable scooter. For two large size people, the scooter might be a bit uncomfortable and this is more of an individual or personal scooter than a family scooter.

Yamaha Fascino Price in India

Well considering the price it is approx INR 20000 more than its smaller sibling the Ray-Z. Is it value for money just for the size and a bit more bling as the engine capacity remains the same at 110 cc.

Yamaha Fascino Engine

The Fascino is powered by a 113cc engine that churns out 6.8bhp of power and 8Nm of torque. The engine is powerful enough even though the figures state a different story. Yamaha’s this 113cc engine is powerful, reliable and even efficient. This is the third scooter to get this engine. The vibrations on the scooter are a bit harsh at idle, but that happens only when it is running on very low fuel. Yamaha has made a good scooter in the form of Fascino.

One of the strong points of the Fascino is its ride quality and even its manoeuvrability. Its quick, efficient and comfortable, and it can easily zoom past in the traffic. It doesn’t go past the three-digit mark, but it can cruise at 70km/hr with ease.

The telescopic forks made it ease to ride even on bad city roads.

Yamaha Fascino Top Speed

The Fascino attains a top speed of 85 km/h which is similar to other scooters in its class and price point. The advantage it has is thanks to the Yamaha DNA it is stable even at such speeds which most scooters are not.

Yamaha Fascino Ride and Handling

Yamaha bikes have always been good handlers. Even with the size difference Yamaha reduced the weight so that it won’t affect the handling. It is not as agile is the Ray-Z but feels far more superior than the scooters out there.

Under the footboard the base is curved typical of Yamaha design and that is a good design option as the chances of it brushing the corners is way less. The front suspension is telescopic making it even more agile and flickable. The response to the twist of the accelerator is perfect and there is no lag.

The low centre of gravity helps in boosting confidence. Yamaha has made another outstanding machine and the legacy goes on. The only draw back I see is that due to the softer suspension the low ground clearance can be a pain on speed breakers. The narrow handlebars make this an excellent option in traffic despite its longer wheelbase.

Yamaha Fascino Dimensions

Considering its longer length and wheelbase it is still a kilo lighter than the Ray-Z. Yamaha seems to always have a trick up its sleeve. Sadly the ground clearance seems low and ends up hitting on speed-breaker even if they aren’t too high. This is one aspect Yamaha desperately needs to work upon. As the ride i quite soft thanks to the softer suspension and more movement.

Yamaha Fascino Mileage

Yamaha has given a 5.2 litre fuel tank size and it feels great as every ml counts. The company claims an efficiency of 62 km/l which is an excellent figure to claim. With that tank size an easy of 280 kms can be done with ease. That is a good run for those looking for daily commute.

Yamaha Fascino Price

For the price the Fascino is available, it is a good buy. It cannot be compared to any of the other scooters in styling and is a unique proposition. If you want to buy something regular than there are many scooters, but the Fascino is a good new option to pick. The engine and the underpinnings are tried and tested so you do not have to worry about that.
