Uttar Pradesh states government buses will soon run on human waste as the company is now looking at giving contract to Scania that has recently rolled out “poo bus” in the UK. As per the contract, UP state government will pay a fee of INR 60-70 per kilometre to Scania depending on the location and the company will hire the staff and manage the other administration cost too. If a bus can run on human waste, then this will not just reduce the dependency on fossil fuel but also be a useful means to use the human waste.

With no strong recycling facilities in India, this will be an easier way to clean out wastes in the country.

UP is a state that is known to have a not-so-clean-state image and this will help them some of it if they give the entire bus contract to Scania.

Ravinder Singh, service manager, Agra division of UPSRTC, said in a statement, “The Swedish bus maker showed a presentation to our representatives on how human excreta and household waste could provide a sustainable way of fuelling public transport, while also improving urban air quality.”

Shiva Kumar V, director (sales) of Scania Commercial Vehicles India Private Limited said, “Yes, we have been in talks about the bio-methane buses for UP State Road Transport Corporation. At present, though, we are focusing on the ethanol-run buses.” The Swedish firm will be generating bio-fuel from bio-waste like human excreta.

This will help them to clean up the city and will be a god use of the waste too.
