Well, almost close, with 4,875 cars sold daily on an average, during the last fiscal. Maruti Suzuki, which is the country’s largest car manufacturer, has registered its highest ever sales in India. The company has broken its own record and sold 16,53,500 units during FY 2017-18. Maruti Suzuki sales in India saw a growth of 14.5%. Last year the company sold 14,44,541 units. If we consider exports, the number stands at a mighty 1,779,574 units which has a growth rate of 15%.

The market is seeing a high growth in SUVs and the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza leads the sales charts. If we look at combined sales of the Vitara Brezza, Maruti S-Cross and the UV Maruti Ertiga, they stood at 2.53 lakh units as against 1.95 lakh units, last year. So the SUV space is also being ruled by the largest Indian company.

In terms of exports, Maruti Suzuki exported a total of 1,26,074 units last FY 2017-18 as compared to 1,24,062 units in FY 2016-17. Thus, Maruti the growth was 1.6 percent. In March 2018 alone, the company exported 12,016 units of its cars, as compared to 11,764 units during the same month in 2017. This is a growth of 2.1 percent. Talking about the small car segment, Maruti Suzuki Alto and Maruti Suzuki WagonR grew at a 3.2% in FY 2017-18 , registering a sales number of 4.27 lakh cars. The Maruti Swift has been the driver for this large sales number, supported by Maruti Baleno and the Dzire. These cars have seen the segment grow at 28%.

However, the Maruti Ciaz saw a fall in its sales The company sold a total of 58,913 units of its mid-size sedan as against 64,448 units sold between FY2016-17. A facelift of the Ciaz is around the corner and this is expected to once again boost the sales of the Ciaz, which has come under greater pressure after the new Hyundai Verna launch.

This segment will see more competition after the launch of Toyota Yaris next month.

Maruti is also gearing up for more launches this year. The new Ciaz will be launched. The new Wagon R is also on the cards. Maruti will also enter the Creta segment with the Maruti Suzuki Vitara.

Next year will also see a new generation Alto being launched.

So a lot more action coming up. It will be interesting to see if Maruti breaks its sales record this year as well.
