2019 MG ZS (Creta Rival) to launch next year

MG Motor India will be kickstarting their operations in India soon. The British marquee, now owned by SAIC of China has set up its subsidiary in India and will be manufacturing and selling their vehicles in the country. The MG plant is situated in Halol, Gujarat and the car for this brand will roll out from there. MG Motor India will roll out their first product which is the 2019 MG ZS. This is an SUV, which will be more than 4 metres in length. It will compete directly with the Hyundai Creta and also the Renault Captur. With MG Motor India, SAIC Motor wants to be a part of the third-biggest car market in the world.

MG Motor India will be investing around Rs. 5,000 crore in the next 3-4 years. It has already invested Rs 2,000-crore last year. MG Motor India is also working on electric vehicles and this investment will be towards EVs as well. The company plans to have an initial capacity of 80,000 units per annum, in the first phase. The MG ZS will be a strong competitor to the Creta. What all will the SUV pack in? 2019 MG ZS Launch Date in India

The MG ZS SUV will be launched by mid to late 2019. We reckon that this SUV will be launched just before the festive season, that is around September 2019. This is the best time to launch a new product and eat into the share of the competition.

The MG ZS will be priced aggressively. MG would want to grab as much market share from the leader – Hyundai Creta. The prices for the MG  ZS are expected to start at Rs.9.5 lakhs and go upto Rs.14 lakhs, on-road, Delhi. A competitive price is imperative for the company to make a dent in the fiercely competitive Indian market.

2019 MG ZS Specifications

The MG ZS sold in UK has only a petrol powerplant. There is a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine and then a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated one. These engines are mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission and a 5-speed manual transmission. In India, the company may source a diesel engine for the ZS. A diesel engine would be very important for the Indian market. It is yet to be seen which diesel engine will be provided in this SUV.

The 2019 MG ZS is a contemporary looking SUV. The front has a wide and prominent grille with has a thick chrome surround. The Mercedes-like diamond grille looks rich and is also very attractive. The headlamps are sleek and are wrap around ones. There is a scuff plate under the front bumper, finished in silver colour. From the side, the MG ZS looks pretty long. It has a sharply rising window line towards the rear. It gets 17-inch alloy wheels which are diamond cut. They add some flair to the SUV.

The rear sees a pair of split wrap around tail lamps. These look pretty sleek and premium as well. There is a MG logo at the centre, which also doubles up as the boot lid opener, something we have seen in Volkswagen cars. There is an integrated spoiler on the tailgate. The rear bumper also gets silver finished scuff plates. In terms of looks, the 2019 MG ZS will be right up there amongst the best-looking SUVs.

The interiors of the 2019 MG ZS look quite premium and functional too. A neatly laid out dashboard looks pleasing to the eye. It gets a large 8-inch touchscreen at the centre. This will come with all latest functionalities like Android Auto and Apple Car Play. There will be navigation offered and also a reverse parking camera. The steering wheel is a good-looking chunky unit. It has controls for the driver information system and also for the audio and Bluetooth. The MG ZS also gets cruise control. It will also get keyless entry and a push-button start on higher variants.

The space inside is generous and will provide a good spacious option for buyers. Storage space in the SUV are good enough. Cup holders in the floor console and 1 litre water bottles in the door pads add to a lot of convenience. The top-end variants will come with leather upholstery. There will be rear AC vents for added comfort and three person can comfortably sit on the rear seat.
