Piaggio has been doing well lately in the scooter space. It was already successful in the commercial segment. The Vespa brand has made a mark, but sales number have been limited. The Aprilia SR 150 scooter has appealed to young enthusiasts and has been selling good numbers in certain urban markets. Riding on the success of the SR 150, Aprilia recently launched the SR 125 as well. Now, the company is gearing up to launch another version of the 125cc scooter, which is called the Aprilia Storm 125. The Storm 125 had been showcased at the Auto Expo 2018 as well. This will be a lower priced variant, which is expected to appeal to a wider set of audience. There will be no change in the engine or transmission.

Unlike the race heritage what the SR 150 carries, the Aprilia Storm 125 will be positioned as a more utilitarian scooter. It will also come in different variants and colour options. The price of the Storm 125 has not yet been announced. However, we estimate it to be around INR 68,000 (on-road). This will priced lower than the SR 125. It will also come with different accessory options. There will also be an option of a non-disc brake variant. The Aprilia scooter will now get more affordable.

The Storm 125 is powered by the same 124cc, three-valve, single-cylinder engine from the SR 125. It belts out 9.4bhp of power and 8.2Nm of peak torque. The engine of the Aprilia Storm 125 comes mated to a CVT gearbox. A 6.5-litre fuel tank makes way here instead of the the 7-litre tank of the SR 125.

The Storm 125 comes with 12-inch wheels with high profile on-off road tyres. It gets a 30mm telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear. This can be adjusted for preload. The Storm 125 will come with several accessories as well.

This scooter has the same design of the SR 125. Cosmetically changes, though will be there. There are new body graphics and a matte colour scheme Two colours – red and yellow were displayed at the Auto Expo 2018. The graphics make the scooter look funky and attractive. There is a prominent Storm branding on the side panels. The Aprilia Storm 125 has front panel-mounted dual-headlamp unit, which has halogen lamps and no LEDs. It comes with AHO (Auto Headlamp On) feature. The twin-pod instrument cluster is same as the SR 125 and the overall styling is sharp.

Where the Storm differs is the wheels. The Storm 125 is equipped with 12-inch wheels, instead of 14-inch wheels on the SR 125. The design of the alloy wheels also is different. The Aprilia Storm 125 also gets high profile Vee Rubber tyres which are dual-purpose, tubeless ones. The higher profile tyres will make the ride of the Aprilia Storm 125 softer. The company also seems to be working on its suspension setup, to make is more usable in daily riding. A softer setup will appeal to a larger section of buyers. Aprilia also offers optional accessories, and the displayed model was equipped with a large windscreen. With the off-road tyres, the scooter can perform well in off-road conditions.
