The 2019 Toyota Yaris comes only with a petrol engine. This 1.5-litre engine will be churning about 110bhp of power. It is a new-gen petrol engine, while the Etios had the older gen one. The same block has been modified and gets many changes. This engine will come mated to a six-speed manual transmission. There will also be a CVT on offer. A diesel engine will not be offered as of now, as the demand for frugal petrol engines is growing in this segment.
Toyota has the Etios, which is spacious but never was premium. This will be the company’s premium sedan. The Yaris will be competing with the Honda City, Maruti Ciaz and the Hyundai Verna. This new sedan shares its platform with the Etios and so will the new one do. There is also the new-gen Honda city in the works already.
Toyota has seen a strong player in the premium segment, but it seems to have missed out somewhere. The Corolla Altis has been doing well, but the segment has shrunk. The 2019 Toyota Yaris will be highly localized sedan and Toyota is looking at adding this to its list of best sellers.
2019 Toyota Yaris a new-generation sedan. The design language isn’t anywhere close to the Etios or the Corolla Altis. There are some elements that are shared, like the front grille styling seen on most of the Toyota sedans sold in other markets. The headlamps are pulled back and are projectors. There is a large grille on the bumper for air intake. The fog lamp is round and the daytime running LEDs are on the bumper. The hood has a crowned design
The side profile of the 2019 Toyota Yaris is subtle and it will come with 15-inch wheels. There is a crisp line running across the silhouette. The door handles will have chrome and the wing mirrors have turn indicators. The rear continues with the same styling. There are LED tail lamps and this is something like the Kizashi at the rear. There shall be a thin chrome strip too. The radio antenna will be mounted at the rear.
The competition for this sedan are on a rise. There is already the Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Maruti Ciaz. These take up about 80% of the market share. This is followed by the VW Vento and the Skoda Rapid. There will be new entrants like the Tata X451.
