2018 Yamaha MT-09 launched at ₹11.90 Lakhs (on-road)

India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd. has launched the 2018 version of the Yamaha MT-09 motorcycle. This bike has been priced at ₹11.90 Lakhs (on-road, Delhi). The bike has been priced lower then the earlier model, by passing on GST benefits to customers. The Yamaha MT-09 is a highly powerful and agile motorcycle and is in a league of it own.

This is good new for biking enthusiasts and make the super bike market even more exciting. The bike will be available at select dealerships across the country, mainly in metro cities.

2018 Yamaha MT-09 Price 

The MT-09 has been priced at ₹11.90 Lakhs (on-road, Delhi). The price is lower that the outgoing model due to reduction in GST. It is on the higher side of the spectrum though, for its cubic capacity.

Design

Talking about its looks, the MT-09 has a unique design language. This is naked bike and has aggressive styling.

There is no fairing or plastic cladding on this bike, like a few other naked we see around. The headlamp pops out and it has a floating instrument pod.  The tank is aggressively styled and has two scoops on both sides. From the rear the MT-09 is pretty plain looking, unlike its monstrous front. The Yamaha MT-09 is aimed at buyer from various age groups. This could be one of the reasons for its styling.

Yamaha MT-09 is targeted towards the youngsters who are stepping up from 600 cc sports model or thinking for downsizing from a large-displacement model and looking for a two-wheeler with superior characters like agile performance with swaggering power yet a compact build for efficient handling. This bike will be available as a Completely Built Unit (CBU)

Specifications

The new Yamaha MT-09 comes fitted with a newly developed 847 cc, 3-Cylinder, liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, DOHC, 4-valves engine with ABS technology. It produces 115bhp at 10,000rpm and a peak torque of 87.5Nm at 85000rpm. Main features include:

1) Compact and light weight engine

2) Leaping stance

3) Long Sharper stronger and compact profile

4) Advanced rear view with 3D appearance

5) Swing arm mounter rear fender. With minimalistic design frills, this bike is aimed at providing a boastful riding experience accompanied with superior performance.

Technology

The bike gets quiet a few electronics. It gets YCC-T (Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle) and D-MODE electronic control systems.

YCC-T controls the air intake volumes  in order to control the fuel-air mixture which corresponds to the riders delicate inputs. The D-MODE electronic control system allows the rider choose between three different maps. These are  “STD” Mode, “A” Mode, and “B” Mode. The three different modes provide power in a different manner. The MT-09 has dual 300mm discs at the front and a 245mm single disc set up at the rear.

Colours

The MT-09 will be available in three different colour options. These are:

• Bluish Gray Solid
• Deep Purplish Blue
• Matte Dark Gray

Competition

The Yamaha MT-09 will compete mainly with the Kawasaki Z900 and the Triumph Speed Triple. This bike has it own USPs, which makes it a compelling buy. It is to be seen how Yamaha markets this new version of the bike to prospective customers
