The new upcoming sedan from Fiat has been named Cronos. The new Fiat Cronos, which was codenamed XCS has been spotted testing on several occasions.  Now production ready, the Fiat Cronos will be launched soon. The Cronos is the sedan version of the Fiat Argo hatchback, which was launched earlier.

The Cronos is set to replace the Linea, which it nearing the end of its life cycle. The Fiat Cronos is more modern, larger and more spacious than the Linea. It is based on the same platform as the Argo. Hence, many of the parts will be shared with this hatchback. The Cronos will be high on safety too and will pack in quite a few contemporary features. The Cronos will have modern looks as well, with large headlamps and grille. It is a long car when viewed from the side and the rear also has a fresh looking taillamps. In terms of engines, the Cronos will 1.3-litre Firefly engine that produces 108bhp and the 1.8-Litre EtorQ engines which makes 139bhp of power. These engines will have a 5-speed manual transmission and also a 6-speed automatic.

There is a likelihood of the Fiat Cronos to come to India, however that will be only in 2019. The Indian version will have a different set of engines though. The 1.4-litre T-Jet and the 1.5-litre Multijet will be offered in India.

Fiat Cronos Launch Date

The Fiat Cronos will be launched by early 2018 in Brazil. Deliveries will commence by mid 2018. The Cronos will replace the Linea sedan. An India launch is yet not confirmed, but if the company plans to get it here, it will be only by 2019.

The new Fiat Cronos when launched in India, will be priced between ₹ 8.5 lakhs and ₹ 13 lakhs (on-road), most likely. It will replace the Linea and will come across as a more spacious and modern car. It will operate in the mid-size sedan segment, dominated by Honda City, Hyundai Verna and the Maruti Ciaz.

Fiat Cronos Specifications

The engine options that will be made available on the new Fiat Cronos in Brazil, will be the 1.3-litre Firefly and 1.8-litre EtorQ Evo petrol engines. The 1.3-litre Firefly will be producing 109bhp and 139Nm of torque. The 1.8-litre unit belts out 139bhp of power and 189Nm of torque. There will be a 5-speed manual transmission availsable with both engines. The 1.8-litre will also get a 6-speed automatic. There is no diesel engine in Brazil.

If launched in India, it will come with the 1.4-litre T-Jet turbo-petrol and the new 1.5-litre Multijet diesel engine. Both these are competitive powertrains. It will be offered in both manual as well as automatic transmissions.

New Fiat Cronos Design

The Fiat Cronos 2018 is underpinned by Fiat’s small-wide platform. This platform is a widely used one and it also underpins the Fiat Argo hatchback. The Cronos is essentially the sedan version of the Argo. It uses Fiat’s new design language. The Cronos will have large dual parabola headlamps which will also have daytime running LEDs. The taillamps will also be LED ones and will have a unique shape.

Top end variants will get a black roof. The alloy wheel design will also be smart. Overall the Fiat Cronos will be bigger than the Linea. In terms of dimensions, it will be longer and wider. The ground clearance also will be higher than the Linea.

 Fiat Cronos 2018 Interior

The Cronos will have stylish interiors. They will be similar to the one seen in the Argo. The layout will be identical. There will be a floating top touchscreen in the centre. This will come equipped with UConnect infotainment system. This system will have Androind Auto and Apple Car Play, Navigation, reverse camera and a 8-speaker audio system.

Other features will include a new multifunction steering wheel, reverse parking sensors, keyless entry, push button start, cruise control and paddle shifts for automatic. The interiors will be functional and the Cronos will have good space inside. The rear kneeroom and headroom will be better than the Linea. It is expected to feel more luxurious inside.

Fiat Cronos Competition 

The Fiat Cronos will mainly compete with the likes of the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Ciaz, Volkswagen Vento and Skoda Rapid. The Cronos will be positioned as good value for money s it is expected to offer a combination of good looks, space, features, performance and efficiency.
