Maruti Suzuki had showcased the SX4 S-Cross at the 2014 Auto Expo, and it has been spotted on multiple occasions doing test rounds in India. The latest update is that Maruti Suzuki might not be able to use the S-Cross tag, as an objection was raised by the registration department mentioning that a similar name has been registered by an auto ancillary. Under section 12, a name cannot be registered because of its identity with an earlier name and similarity of goods and services covered by.
The Indian car maker had written to The Registrar for a re-check and granting the name, as the S-Cross brand wasn’t registered, however from what we learn the name hasn’t been registered for Maruti Suzuki yet. As per our sources, Maruti Suzuki is considering another new name for the SX4 S-Cross.
Now, we aren’t sure if the SX4 tag will be used, but we did learn that recently Suzuki has registered for Across and Crossa names, which do have “Cross” in them. There used to be Suzuki Across, 250cc bike that was sold till late 90s, so we can assume that Maruti Suzuki might be looking at getting “Across” or “Crossa” badge on the SX4 S-Cross. We did contact the company officials, however we haven’t got any confirmation from them.
The SX4 S-Cross will be brand’s new crossover that will compete with Renault Duster and the Nissan Terrano. This should be powered by a 1.4-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engine option. There might be still sometime to get Suzuki’s newly developed 1.5-litre diesel engine. Maruti Suzuki has just introduced the facelift version of the DZire, following are the details and the pricing of the compact sedan.
