2018 TVS Apache RTR 160 4V launched at ₹81,490 (ex-showroom)

The 2018 TVS Apache RTR 160 4v has been launched at a starting price of ₹81,490 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The company has been working towards getting an upgrade to to this model, which started the Apache series. TVS have been busy with a slew of launches in the past few months. Their presence at the Auto Expo too was breathtaking. This new bike gets multiple changes in terms of design and styling. It has been styled on its bigger sibling, the Apache RTR 200, which is derived from the Draken concept

The Apache 160 new model now resembles the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V. This is a reason why the new bike stands out and looks different from its outgoing version. The 160cc segment has been heating up, lately, with Suzuki Gixxer, Honda Hornet and Bajaj Pulsar 160 NS coming in. The Apache 160 had started to look dated in comparison and need an upgrade badly. This is one of the reasons why it has got an update.

This new Apache 160cc bike has an oil cooled engine. It takes its design from the 200cc version. TVS wants to be strong in this segment. They were the first movers into this segment and they would not like to loosen their grip here. Suzuki Gixxer is a very strong competitor to the Apache. The carburettor is visible in the spy shots of the bike.

Another new addition is a monoshock rear suspension and a single-seat layout. The fuel tank design and even the exhaust canister is new. The engine is a 159.9cc single-cylinder and it will be churning about 16bhp of maximum power and14.8Nm of maximum torque. The transmission shall be the same 5-speed, and there won’t be any change in that. IThe bike come with a carburetor as well as a Fuel Injection engine. This new bike will also be manufactured in TVS Hosur plant.

TVS Apache RTR 160 2018 Model Price

As the 2018 TVS Apache RTR 2018 gets many changes.  There are two variants, one is the the carbureted one and the other is fuel injected one. Though the price is higher than the outgoing bike it comes with best in class performance.

TVS Apache 2018 Model Design

To begin with, the design comes inspired from the Apache RTR 200. Tis was based on the Draken concept. The platform is the same double cradle synchro chassis, which is the same for other existing Apache bikes. The single-piece seat layout continues on this bike as well. There are changes in the design and it has a different headlamp. There are LED DRLs as well. The fuel tank and even the other bits are new. The bike does looks muscular and it has a lot of bits that makes it look aggressive. The instrument panel is all digital and is white backlit. This is similar to the 200cc version bike as well.

Apache 160 New 2018 Specifications

A 159.7cc engine comes on this new bike on the bike. This will continue to have a carburettor and even oil-cooled too. There is also a fuel injected version. The engine produces 16bhp at 8,000rpm of power and 14.8Nm of peak torque at 6,500rpm. This engine comes mated to a five-speed transmission, powering the rear wheels through a chain drive.

The front suspension is telescopic, while the rear has monoshock. The bike will be offered with front disc brake and rear drum. There will be an option of rear disc brake too. We aren’t certain if ABS shall be offered on it. Even if it is, it won’t be offered as a standard.

2018 TVS Apache RTR 160 New Model Dimensions

The new bike has having the same double cradle synchro stiff chassis, so it is more of an update than an all new. The length of the bike shall be 2,050mm, 790mm wide, 1,050mm tall and a wheelbase of 1,357mm. At the same time, the seat height should be 790mm. The bike’s ground clearance is about 180mm.
