Are EVs fun? Well, there is one car that makes owning an EV fun and that’s the MG Comet. With compact dimensions and a feature-rich interior, the Comet EV offers a mix of premiumness and practicality. Despite its small size, the car punches above its weight doing things better than many SUVs. Here are 5 things, I like on the MG Comet EV compared to my Maruti Brezza.

MG Comet: Overall Quality

MG Comet EV

One thing MG does well on their cars is build quality. From the door thud to the quality of plastics on the inside, everything feels robust and from a segment higher. While other MG cars feel overdone, the Comet EV offers an elegant cabin with light colours and a large glass area.

Compared to my Maruti Brezza, the Comet’s cabin offers more soft-touch plastic and surfaces which enhance the overall premium quotient of the vehicle. From the e Apple Airpod case-like key fob to the free-standing twin displays everything on the inside speaks of quality. Additionally, the Comet also comes with an aero wiper (frameless) and LED lighting all-around along with high-intensity headlights which is better than most compact SUVs. Other quality elements on the inside include brushed aluminium switches for the power window, rotary gear selector and connecting LED lights front & rear.

Features

Another department where the MG Comet trumps its competition is in terms of features. Compared to models like the Tata Tiago and the Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS, the Comet EV offers superior features. Key highlights of the cabin include dual free-standing 10.25-inch screens for infotainment and driver display, leather-wrapped steering wheel, request sensor on both doors, wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto and more. The IRVM (Interior Rear View Mirror) comes equipped with a pre-wired USB port that can be used to power a dashcam or charger.

In terms of safety, the car offers an electronic parking brake, rear disk brake, hill start assist, creep function, ESP and reversing camera among others. The Comet offers over 55 connected car technologies, such as geofencing, vehicle tracking, remote lock/unlock, key sharing, and more.

MG Comet: Short Turning Radius

Comet EV Driving

The third point that makes the MG Comet EV better than most compact and sub-compact SUVs is its short turning radius. At 4.2 metres, the Comet EV offers the shortest turning radius of any car in India beating the Maruti Alto K10 which has a 4.6-metre turning radius. This compact turning circle makes taking U-turns and tight turns on city roads easy compared to any other car.

MG Comet: Easy Parking

Standing at 2.97 metres long, 1.5 metres wide and 1.64 metres tall, the MG Comet EV is the smallest car currently on sale. In comparison, the Comet EV is smaller than the Tata Nano. This compact dimension allows for the four-wheeler to be parked in any tight space in the congested streets of India. Additionally, the lack of a transmission tunnel and the pure EV architecture allow for a smooth transfer from the driver to the passenger side without any fancy acrobatics.

In daily use, we have seen examples of the MG Comet parked in tiny spaces made for two-wheelers.

World of Customisation

Lastly, the MG Comet offers endless customisation options compared to any car. MG Offers the Comet in 5 exterior colour options – Starry Black, Candy White, Aurora Silver, Candy White with Starry Black and Apple Green with Starry Black. In addition to these colours, the hatchback is also provided with four packs (Beach Bay, Serenity, Flex and Sundowner) which offer both interior and exterior customisation.  Alongside the custom packs, customers can also choose from a combination of over 250 sticker packs which can be used to make the Comet unique to you.

Priced between Rs 7.38 lakh and Rs 9.74 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), the MG Comet EV makes an excellent case to be chosen as your city car. Currently, the brand is also offering discounts of a minimum of Rs 10,000 on the model. So, would you choose this car over the Tata Tiago?
