Chevrolet to get more India specific products – EXCLUSIVE

Chevrolet has been working towards developing several new products and the company had announced 10 new products for the Indian car market. The Cruze and the Trailblazer are two of them. When we spoke to Kaher Kazem, COO, GM India about more India-specific products, he mentioned, “There will be more India specific products.

The Essentia is a compact sedan that will be launched in 2017. This will be the first Chevrolet product that has been tailor made for Indian conditions. The sub four-metre sedan is what has been made as per the Indian car market and Chevrolet has been working towards developing more India-related products. When we asked Kaher about a compact SUV from Chevy for India, his response was, “The trend in compact SUV is growing and we recognise that.” When we asked if the brand will be getting one, we didn’t get a clear answer on that.

From what we know, Chevrolet will introducing the Spin and the Spin Activ too will be making its way into India. The Activ is the crossover version of the Spin and this could come in under four metres of length.

The Spin Activ has a wheel at the rear, however it slides and the tail gate opens like a hatch. This is somewhat similar to what we have seen on the Fiat Avventura. With Chevrolet shifting its production to Talegaon, it might not even find it difficult to get a vendor for this as even Fiat’s Ranjangaon facility is in the vicinity. When we asked about the Spin Activ, Chevrolet didn’t respond on that. Chevrolet will be moving its production from Halol, Gujarat to Talegaon and this plant will even be manufacturing new vehicles that shall be exported to various markets.
