This Maruti Ertiga Rival gets new Features and Transmission

The Ertiga is almost untouchable in the affordable 7-seater category. One car that did manage to steal some sales from it was the Kia Carens. However, in the last few months, the Ertiga has once again asserted its dominance. So, Kia has re-introduced the diesel manual and added some new features to the Carens. Let’s talk about this Maruti Ertiga rival.

Diesel manual is back

Last year in March, Kia discontinued the diesel manual option on all of its cars in favour of the iMT gearbox. Since then, the brand has backtracked on this decision by offering it on the Seltos and Sonet. Now, the brand has offered the diesel manual on the Carens. The manual gearbox is paired with a 1.5-litre diesel engine capable of producing 114bhp and 250Nm of torque. Along with the manual, the Carens continues with the iMT and automatic gearbox. 

Variants rejigged

Kia has introduced three new variants on the Carens. Firstly, we have Premium (O), that sits above the Premium variant and gets additional features like an 8-inch infotainment system, shark fin antenna, steering mounted controls, burglar alarm and keyless entry. Then we have the Prestige (O) that comes with push button start/stop, rear LED lights, LED DRLs and positioning lamps. Lastly, we have the Prestige+ (O) gets an electric sunroof, LED map lamp & room lamp. The range-topping X-Line comes with a new dashcam, and window up & down through voice commands. Kia has also added a 180W charger as standard.

Kia Carens – Pricing & rivals 

Kia has hiked the price of the Carens, starting from Rs 12.27 lakh and going to Rs 23.34 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). The updated Carens will continue to rival products like the Maruti Ertiga, XL6, Maruti Ertiga and Mahindra Marazzo.
