One of the biggest savings owning an electric vehicles is with running cost. In general, a new petrol/diesel car costs Rs 8-12/km in running cost, while an EV can cover that distance in just Rs 1-1.5/km. This is majorly dues to the increase in fuel prices (Rs 100/ litre) compared to electricity, which cost just Rs 6-9/ unit. Additionally, unlike petrol/diesel cars which require periodic maintenance every 15,000 km, an EV is free from any major maintained as there are fewer moving parts.

Sharing his experience with the EV, Asheesh said that in the last 4 years he has completed over 50,000 km and save over Rs 5 lakh in both running and maintenance cost associated with an EV.

In 2022, Asheesh under took a 50 day long road trip around India covering 17,000 km in a Tata Nexon EV Max. Talking about this journey, he said ‘I wanted to prove an EV can go anywhere and break the stereotype around highway travelling’. Traversing through major states like UP, MP, Kerala, Telangana ad Tamil Nadu before going back North-East towards remote places like Imphal, Manipur and Bhutan, Asheesh had no problem finding a charger for his EV. As per details provided by the Ministry of Power, a total of 12,146 public electric vehicle charging stations are operational across 34 states and UTs of India.

At places where he found no public charging, he resorted to slow charging at the hotel through a 16 Amp socket. According to Asheesh, almost 95 EV owners in India slowly charge their cars overnight through a regular charger. A regular 16 Amp socket takes 7-9 hours to help owners start a new day with a full charge and range.
