CNG cars continue to be a good alternative for mileage-conscious buyers. Their main advantage is that the initial investment is not that high, but the returns are quite good compared to hybrids or other ICE options. That is why manufacturers like Tata and Maruti continue to invest heavily in CNG options. In the next few months, 4 new options could join the CNG segment. Let’s talk about these new CNG cars.

Tata Nexon CNG

Tata Nexon CNG

At the Bharat Mobility Show, Tata unveiled the Nexon iCNG concept becoming the first manufacturer in India to showcase a turbo petrol CNG option. Though it was showcased as a concept, the car did look production-ready. Specs-wise, Tata hasn’t revealed the exact details, but we don’t expect any major changes as seen in other Tata CNG cars. Additionally, it also comes with Tata’s famed twin-cylinder technology giving it a usable boot space of 230 litres. Nexon CNG prices are expected to be 1-lakh more than similarly priced petrol manual variants, which are priced from Rs 9.61 lakh to Rs 15.56 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

New Maruti Swift/Dzire

New CNG cars

It is no secret that Maruti is gearing up to update the Swift. Considering the popularity of CNG on the Swift, it’s a no-brainer that the new Swift will also get a CNG option. This CNG setup is expected to be paired with the new 3-cylinder Z12E engine. In its petrol guise, this engine is capable of producing 80bhp and 108Nm of torque. We can expect some drop in specifications on the CNG. Similar specifications are expected on Swift’s sedan sibling, the Dzire. Talking about the new Swift and Dzire, both are going to get refreshed designs. The interior layout could be similar to the Baleno and Fronx. In features, we could see a new 9.0-inch infotainment system, blind spot warning, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 360-degree camera and 6 airbags. Both cars are expected to be launched in the next couple of months.

New CNG cars – Toyota Taisor

New CNG cars

The next car on the list is the Fronx, no wait, it is the Toyota Taisor. Toyota is gearing up to launch the rebadged version of the Fronx rumoured to be named the Taisor. It is confirmed to be launched on 3rd April 2024. The Fronx comes with CNG on its 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, so naturally the Taisor is also expected to get this option. The CNG setup is capable of producing 76bhp and 98Nm of torque. Additionally, we also expect the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine. Overall, the Taisor could get some exterior design changes and interior tweaks. Other things like the 9.0-inch infotainment, ARKAMY sound system, wireless charging, heads-up display, and more should continue on the Taisor.
