New Thar rival

According to a new media report, Jeep is pondering about bringing a product that will rival the Mahindra Thar. The success of Thar has forced Jeep to think about a new lifestyle SUV. To rival the Thar properly, Jeep’s version will take inspiration from the Wrangler SUV. The American brand would be looking to play on its strengths with body-on-frame architecture, diesel/petrol engine and robust off-road capabilities.

Jeep’s plan

Along with the Thar rival, Jeep is also rumoured to be working on a Creta rivalling SUV. These two SUVs, if done right, could bring a lot of volumes for Jeep India. Additionally, both these SUVs could be exported to other RWD markets, which could make them quite a good investment. Reportedly, Jeep could also export these SUVs in kit form to locations such as Latin America and Africa.

New Thar rival – Price

Jeep doesn’t seem to be too keen on taking on the Mahindra Thar head-on. Rather, it will be offered at a slight premium over the Thar to maintain its brand image. Additionally, it could become the brand’s cheapest 4×4 option in the country. Currently, the price of Thar 4×4 starts from Rs 17.16 lakh and goes to Rs 21.42 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). Jeep’s model could be priced around the Rs 20 to Rs 25 lakh mark (on-road, Mumbai).
