Endeavour/Everest spotted

The new Everest has been spotted in India for the first time. It sports the Everest badging as it seems to be a CBU import, but in India, we could see the Endeavour badge make a return. The spied car was spotted on a flatbed and is rumoured to be heading to the Ford factory in Chennai. It remains to be seen if Ford will assemble the car at its Chennai plant or bring a fully imported unit. If it does come as a fully imported unit it could cost around Rs 60 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

The new Endeavour has a massive road presence as seen in the spy shot. Overall it gets a more rugged design blended quite well with modern elements. Globally, the Endeavour comes with a 3.0-litre V6 turbocharged diesel engine. Along with single-turbo and bi-turbo diesel engines. There is also a 2.3-litre Ecoboost petrol engine. It remains to be seen which option Ford brings to India. In terms of features, we have a 360-degree camera, a 12-inch infotainment system, connected car technology, etc. We also have safety features like a blind-spot information system, lane keep system, adaptive cruise control, active park assist and nine airbags.

Ford has been quite tightlipped about its re-entry plans. However, it has done a lot of things in the background. Last week, Ford filed a design patent for a new compact SUV that could rival the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, etc. Now earlier this week, another rumour popped up that Ford was thinking about entering a JV with Tata Motors. A JV with Tata Motors makes sense as the American brand is focusing more on hybrids and EVs. Partnering with Tata Motors, the king of the EV segment will give Ford’s re-entry plans a head start in India.
