It has been a few years now that SUVs are ruling the Indian roads. Skoda on the other hand believed that sedans still had their own space. With a vision to revive the sedan segment, Skoda India introduced their new sedan, the Slavia. At the time of launch, Skoda Slavia had the Honda City as the only competitor. Soon the sedan created space in the hearts of many while Mr. Swayambhar, with his Skoda Slavia, has an interesting story to share with us. Who is Mr Swayambhar?

Before sharing Swayambhar’s exciting off-road thriller, let us give you a quick glimpse of who Swayambhar is and how he ended up buying the Skoda Slavia. Swayambhar Majumder, a banker by profession and passionate travel vlogger, was in hunt of buying a new car. He previously owned a Hyundai i20 and was looking for something more convenient for his future road trips. In the process, Mr. Swayambhar connected with Motoroctane Consultancy and with the help of MotorOctane expert advice, Swayambhar purchased the Skoda Slavia. He fell in love with his sedan when he visited the showroom but the bond got deeper when he experienced the capabilities of his car in Leh.

Off-Roading with Skoda Slavia

Mr. Swayambhar shared detailed ownership experience with his Skoda Slavia. However, he emphasised more on the off-road experience in Leh. So what exactly had happened? While travelling from Tso Moriri lake to Hanle, both places located in Leh, Swayambhar was struck at river crossing. Note that river crossings in Ladakh are the most challenging terrains with fast flowing water and huge rocks underneath the water. Coming back to Swayambhar’s experience, he stopped at the start of the river and took his time gauging the terrain. Meanwhile, a traveller van with plenty of ground clearance tried to pass through the terrain but eventually got stuck. The army personnel however quickly helped the van get out.

Did that break the confidence of Swayambhar? Well, he kept his faith in his car and went for it. Before getting into the river crossing, Swayambhar asked his fellow passengers to get down as he did not want to hamper the ground clearance. He saw an Innova passing through and decided to go for it. Once he started moving, Skoda Slavia kept on going and passed through the river without a fuss. Looking at a sedan passing such an extreme terrain, astonished the onlookers. Swayambhar crossed the river, stepped out of the car, and saw the water dipping out of doors and silencer. Did that harm or damage his Slavia? NO! It sailed easily, thanks to the electronic differential lock system and a massive 179mm of ground clearance.

Swayambhar’s Skoda Slavia

style variant

Thanks to the MotorOctane Consultancy, Swayambhar purchased the Style 1.5 variant with manual transmission option. It gets the 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine that produces 148bhp and 250Nm of peak torque. What impressed Swayambhar about the Skoda Slavia is the ride quality and SUV-like practicality. The Slavia comes with 520-litres of boot space with 60:40 rear split seats, solving the problem of storage space. Also, the SUV-like 179mm of ground clearance, gave Swayambhar confidence to take the sedan from most extreme road conditions. Adding to all that, Swayambhar loved the way Slavia drove. Slavia is a German product and as we know, German cars are meant to offer plush and confident ride quality. Even the 1.5-litre petrol engine impressed Swayambhar as he was easily able to make quick overtakes on the ghat sections. And although the Slavia holds 148 horses under the hood, the Active Cylinder Technology took care of the car’s mileage. Rest, he truly enjoys other features like ventilated front seats and 9 speaker sound system, that also includes a subwoofer.

The overall experience

Summing up his experience, Mr Swayambhar couldn’t just stop praising his car. The performance, the ride quality, the off-road experience, and SUV-like practicality of Slavia gave him a truly unmatchable experience. Also, the maintenance pack he bought for around Rs 24,999 helps him to pay a very marginal service cost, enhancing the running cost of Skoda. He thanked MotorOctane for recommending such an amazing car which fulfils all his requirements. And yes, he kept on admiring the way Skoda Slavia looks. No matter where he parks his car, he turns around and takes a second look at the sedan. A habit every car lover has!
