Recently, Kia stated that it is studying the possibility of bringing hybrid cars to India. The brand is already working on electrifying the current 1.2-litre and 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine options in its lineup. The first car to get the hybrid treatment could be the upcoming Clavis SUV which is expected to be unveiled by the end of this year. Then it is expected to bring it on other cars like the Seltos and Carens.

What else do we know?

The Clavis is going to be based on an all-new platform that can support ICE and EV powertrains. Design-wise, it was recently spotted testing with a tall-boy design. As a product, the Clavis will sit between the Seltos and Sonet. So how will Kia differentiate? The Clavis would be a sub-4m car like the Sonet but will come with better interior space and features. Along with the hybrid setup, the Clavis is expected to come with a petrol/diesel and EV powertrain.

The petrol/diesel version is going to come first, followed by the EV version. It remains to be seen when the hybrid version could come.
