A few months back, Hyundai Venue became the first compact SUV to offer ADAS. We were hoping Tata would also bring ADAS with the Nexon facelift, which did not really happen. Now as its sister car Hyundai Venue comes with the ADAS, Kia offered the technology with the Sonet facelift. It gets the same camera based ADAS technology which includes features like – Front Collision Warning, Front Collision Avoidance Assist – Car, Front Collision Avoidance Assist – Cycle, Front Collision Avoidance Assist – Pedestrian, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Following Assist, Leading Vehicle Departure Alert, High Beam Assist, and Driver Attention Warning.

What also the new Sonet now gets is all four disc brakes. The Mahindra XUV300 was the first SUV to offer all four disc brakes in this segment and now the Sonet facelift comes with this feature. However, the Nexon surprisingly misses out on this as we expected Tata Motors to offer on the Nexon facelift, considering the fact that Tata always prioritises safety.

Now this could be a major advantage that the Kia Sonet has over the Tata Nexon. Both these SUVs come with a 1.5-litre diesel engine wherein the Nexon’s diesel produces 113bhp & 260Nm while Sonet’s diesel produces 114bhp & 250Nm. Talking about the transmission options, both Nexon and Sonet get a manual transmission. But the catch is, the Nexon gets an AMT for automatic whereas the Sonet gets torque converted automatic gearbox, which has smoother shifts than the AMT.

Tata Nexon has been one of the most feature loaded SUVs. With the recent facelift, Tata updated the Nexon with a few more features. But, it missed out on the feature of a powered driver seat. However, Kia updated the Sonet and introduced a 4-way powered driver seat to enhance the convenience of the driver.

Lastly, the Kia Sonet gets something which no other SUV in this segment has to offer. We are talking about the traction modes that the Sonet offers. Generally, cars come equipped with different drive modes but Kia took one step ahead by offering traction modes along with regular drive modes. It gets 3 traction modes which includes – Snow, Mud, & Sand. Kia believes that these modes will assist drivers to take the Sonet through any of these terrains.
