Design

30 lakh Kia SUV

The Sportage comes with a radical design even compared to other Kia cars. At the front, we have Kia’s traditional Tiger Nose grille and then we have boomerang-shaped LED DRLs. These DRLs enclose the LED headlamps in them. Overall, the Sportage looks like a smart-looking car. In the side profile, the car has a lot of undulations, and the design looks similar to the Jeep Compass. The rear is very reminiscent of the Carens with comma-shaped tail lamps.

The Sportage comes with premium interiors like other Kia cars. The head turner is the floating infotainment system and digital instrument cluster. Overall, the layout seems very similar to the new Seltos. The AC vents wrap around quite well over this display. Below that, we have AC controls that are touch-sensitive. Other highlights include a three-spoke steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, rotary gear lever, ADAS, and an outside mirror memory system.

Specifications

Globally, the Sportage comes with a sleeve of options. In India, we could see it share specification with the Hyundai Tucson. So we could see the 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol (153bhp/192Nm) and a 2.0-litre diesel engine (183bhp/416Nm). Transmission options should include a manual and automatic gearbox on both these engines.

Kia has been quite tightlipped about the details of Sportage in India. Currently, it is busy updating its current lineup and then it has plans to launch the new Carnival and EV9. After that, we think Kia may start contemplating bringing more of its global cars to India as the market matures. We hope to see the Kia Sportage in India in the next two to three years. Pricing-wise, we expect it to be in the price range of Rs 30 lakh to 35 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
