Sedans have not had the best of times anywhere around the world and more so in the Indian market. People are preferring butch SUVs instead. However, in India at least, people are still buying compact sedans. One such popular compact sedan is the Maruti Dzire. Now Maruti is updating the Swift, and these updates should trickle down onto the Dzire. In today’s article, let’s talk about this Rs 7 lakh sedan.

What to expect?

Suzuki is testing the new Swift in Europe. These spied cars come with a more rounded design. From the spy shots at least, it seems to be getting a more mature design compared to the current model. Why are we talking about Swift here? As you may or may not, the Dzire is essentially the Swift with a boot. So if the Swift is getting an update, then the Dzire would also get it soon. Maruti Suzuki could offer some differentiation on the Dzire.

New powertrain

The new Swift is almost certain to come with a strong hybrid setup. We can expect a hybrid setup similar to the one we see on the Grand Vitara. This hybrid setup will be paired with a 1.2-litre petrol engine. Can you guess the mileage figures? The new Swift/Dzire is expected to deliver a mind-boggling mileage in the range of 35kmpl to 40kmpl. This engine option will be expensive and so Maruti could also continue with the non-hybrid engine.

Rs 7 lakh sedan – Launch details

Maruti Suzuki generally shares everything between Swift and Dzire. So even if the Dzire test mule is spotted, we expect Maruti Suzuki to be working on it. Considering the popularity of Dzire here, Maruti could commence their testing simultaneously so they could be launched together. The new Swift is expected to be launched in the first half of 2024, and we can expect a similar launch timeline on the new Dzire. The pricing of the new Dzire could start from Rs 8 lakh and go to Rs 15 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
