Volkswagen’s Nexon rival happeing or not?
Volkswagen is still a long way from establishing itself in the Indian market. It’s Project 2.0 is going well, but still the numbers are not that great. Volkswagen needs more affordable products to establish itself. So what can Volkswagen bring? It could bring a compact SUV to take on the Tata Nexon. Skoda plans to bring a compact SUV, so Volkswagen could also do the same. In today’s article, let’s talk about the Volkswagen Compact SUV.
What do we know so far?
As stated above, Skoda has confirmed its plan to bring a compact SUV soon. Skoda has started working on “Project 2.5” and in this plan, it has started working on a compact SUV. Though Volkswagen is yet to outright that it plans to join this project. But seeing the potential of this segment Volkswagen might soon join in.
Volkswagen SUV – What could it get?
Like other shared cars between Skoda and Volkswagen, we can expect different looks, but mechanically they will be the same. This compact SUV will take design inspiration from the Taigun. At the front, we could see a lot of bling with liberal use of chromes. Apart from that, Volkswagen could give it buffed-up bumpers and added cladding. This compact SUV could also see connected tail lamps similar to the Taigun.
Specifications & features
The compact SUV will come with a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine. This would be ideal due to the sub-4m taxes. We don’t think VW could give the 1.5-litre turbo petrol as that will be overkill on this compact SUV. Also, it will shoot up the cost due to the higher taxation. So most probably will see only one engine option on the compact SUV. What about features? We can expect an electric sunroof, digital instrument cluster, ventilated seats, wireless charging etc.
Volkswagen SUV – Launch
Skoda is leading Project 2.5 in India. According to sources, Skoda’s compact SUV is still in its early stages of development, and a launch is not expected sooner than 2025. So we can expect Volkswagen’s compact SUV also in a similar time frame. It is a bit late, but hopefully, Skoda & Volkswagen bring a polished product to India.
