Tata Nexon’s biggest weakness solved?
The Tata Nexon’s sales have skyrocketed in the last few years. Last year it was the top-selling SUV for the majority of months. This year too, it showed its domination, but in the last few months, it has lost that crown to the Hyundai Creta. Even though it is making decent sales, Tata wants to take back the top spot. So it is working on the facelift; we have been talking about that in detail. However, now a new spy shot has revealed that Tata has solved Nexon’s biggest weakness. What’s that? It is replacing the AMT gearbox of Nexon. In today’s article, let’s talk about the Tata Nexon facelift automatic.
DCT gearbox
Earlier this year, we got spy shots confirming the presence of a new automatic gearbox on the Nexon facelift. Now in new spy shots published by Motorbeam, we get confirmation that this is indeed a new DCT gearbox on the Nexon facelift. In the spy shot, the bonnet of the Nexon facelift is open, and we can see a DCT sticker on the bonnet. Once launched, Tata could be calling the DCA gearbox, as it does on the Altroz. By bringing the DCT gearbox, Tata will be solving the biggest weakness of Nexn, which is the AMT gearbox. The AMT gearbox is laggy and doesn’t justify itself on a Rs 10 to Rs 15 lakh car.

What else to know?
The Nexon facelift is going to come with major design changes inside out. The exterior is going to get a design similar to the Curvv, and we could see a connected tail lamp design. In the interiors, we are going to see a lot of changes with a new floating infotainment system. Other features include a two-spoke steering wheel, 360-degree camera, paddle shifters, sunroof, ventilated front seats etc. Specification-wise, there is a possibility that Tata will give it the new 1.2-litre turbo petrol on the higher variants with the DCTA gearbox. Lower variants will continue with the current 1.2-litre turbo petrol, maybe with the AMT. Diesel duties will be handled by the 1.5-litre unit.
Tata Nexon facelift automatic – Launch
Nexon has been spied on regularly in the last few months. According to media reports, Tata plans to launch the Nexon facelift by August or September this year. Considering the frequency of spy shots, this seems to be a fair guess. Also, a launch just before the festive season would be ideal for Tata. What about the price? We can expect a major price hike with the new design and added features.
