The automaker from South Korea has tasted success within a short period since 2019. It entered with a bang by launching the Seltos and following that up with the Sonet. Now Kia has unveiled the Seltos facelift, and it is also working on the Sonet facelift. With the Sonet facelift, could Kia also bring a CNG variant? In today’s article, let’s talk about Kia Sonet CNG.

Known information

Sonet CNG

Earlier this year, the Kia Sonet CNG was spotted testing in India. Kia has been flirting with the idea of CNG for quite some time now. The CNG test models of the Carens were also spotted. In all of this, the peculiar thing is that Kia is testing the CNG on the turbo petrol engine. CNG with turbo petrol hasn’t been tried by any manufacturer in India till now. Even Hyundai turbo petrol cars have been spotted with CNG. It’s an interesting proposition, and Kia will have to thoroughly test the reliability and feasibility of this setup. However, if it gets it right, this setup could shake the CNG segment.

Other details

Coming back to the Sonet CNG, the spotted car was the X-Line variant. The X-Line only comes with an automatic gearbox option. So could it be the first CNG automatic car? Only time will tell. A lot of this depends on the compatibility of turbo petrol engines with CNG. If we get a CNG automatic, it could be one of a kind model which could shadow its rivals.

Sonet CNG – Will it happen?

Sonet CNG

As stated above, Kia has flirted with the idea but has been tight-lipped about its CNG ambitions. Currently, in the C-SUV Segment, the Brezza offers a CNG option. According to rumours, Tata is going to bring a CNG option to the Nexon facelift. So Kia might also just throw in the dice and offer a CNG option on the Kia Sonet facelift.
