Mahindra Thar 5-door – what’s the latest update?

The Mahindra Thar has set a marker in the lifestyle SUV segment. Recently, Mahindra launched the 2WD option on the Thar to attract customers. But Mahindra’s biggest ambition with the Thar has to be the 5-door version. This 5-door version has been spotted testing several times. So what’s the update on the Mahindra Thar 5-door? Latest update

There is a lot of uncertainty regarding the launch timeline of the Thar 5-door. The SUV is regularly spotted testing, but there is a twist. According to our sources, the testing car is still a prototype. Mahindra is looking to give a slightly different design on the Thar 5-door. Even the interiors are going to be refreshed and not what we have seen in the spy shots. Considering all these changes, we don’t expect Mahindra to launch the Thar 5-door anytime in 2023. It could be launched sometime in 2024. 

Specifications

The Thar 5-door is confirmed to be based on the modified ladder-on-frame chassis like the Scorpio-N. Specification-wise, the Thar 5-door could share its engine options with the Scorpio-N. So we can expect a 2.0-litre mStallion petrol engine (200bhp/370Nm) and a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine (172bhp/370Nm). Both engines are expected to come with manual and automatic gearbox options. 

New Thar 2024 – Features

We don’t expect many new features on the Thar 5-door. Rather Mahindra will give it more sensible and usable features that are missing in the 3-door version. We could see a new centre armrest, a bigger infotainment system and more storage spaces. Mahindra could also look to update the upholstery to add a bit of premium flavour to the Thar 5-door.
