The Mahindra XUV700 shook the country with its pricing and features when it was launched. Mahindra did a splendid job by loading with the latest technology and a powerful set of engines. Generally in such big cars, people buy diesel for the extra torque and mileage. But what if diesel doesn’t fit your bill? So should you buy the XUV700 petrol? In today’s article, let’s find out.

Powerful petrol options

The XUV700 comes with the most powerful engines in its segment. Its petrol engine is a 2.0-litre turbo unit capable of producing 197bhp & 380Nm of torque. Transmission options include a manual and an automatic gearbox option. Other cars in this segment come with underpowered petrol options or don’t come with one at all. Another good thing is that Mahindra offers this tune right from the MX variant. So if performance is your main criterion then the XUV700 petrol will surely not disappoint you.

XUV700 petrol – Less usage

It is a known fact that diesel engines need high running, and it is more so the case in the current times. With the new emission norms diesel cars come with DPF filters which can get clogged up if the car is not driven for long durations and is parked more often than used. It makes maintenance more expensive, and you are better off buying a petrol XUV700 if you have less usage.

Refinement

It’s a general perception that petrol engines are more refined than their diesel counterparts. This is true, but the gap has been coming down in the last few years. The XUV700 diesel engine is quite refined, but still, the petrol motor holds the edge in this aspect. So the petrol XUV700 could be a good choice if you want lower NVH levels.

Maintenance

Diesel engines are known for their abuse-friendly and sturdy nature. But as mentioned above, if you do not have a high running, it can lead to a costly repair bill. Also, regular maintenance of a diesel engine is more important than a petrol engine. If cheap maintenance is your priority, The XUV700 petrol could be a good choice.

Mahindra XUV700 petrol – Pricing

Generally, petrol variants are cheaper than similarly priced diesel variants. The same is the case with the XUV700 petrol variants. For example, the top AX7 luxury pack petrol automatic is priced at Rs 28.33 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). The same variant with the diesel engine is priced at Rs 29.54 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). So diesel variants generally have a premium of Rs 1-lakh to Rs 1.5-lakh. These savings can be used to fuel up the car in the long run.
